This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information.Onyx is on the emergency placement list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. Although he may engage with staff in the beginning, Onyx has been observed to show signs of boredom or frustration in the shelter and also becomes easily overstimulated and may escalate to swatting. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. Please check here for updated adoption hours. My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! What my friends at ACC say about me:Onyx tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.A volunteer writes: Onyx has places to go and a forever family to meet. He took it upon himself to walk right out of his condo when I opened the door. Walking right onto my lap, he declared himself ready to go! Where other people might see obstacles, Onyx sees only opportunities. A person (me) sitting right in front of the condo door was no issue, Onyx stretched his front paws on my lap as he gathered himself for an excursion, cheerfully inviting me along on the way! While he seemed truly ready to go through the door, he settled a bit for a few pets and neck scritches before moving on to the next activity. Since Onyx is the type of kitty who finds adventure in everything, he's looking for a patient family who understands that busy cats benefit from feather wand projects and managing toy collections. Onyx is the absolute life of the party and hoping to meet you soon! Primary Color: Black Weight: 9.6 Age: 3yrs 1mths 0wks
