** $420 in pledges to the rescue that pulls ** **New Video** **New Notes** Larry ACCT-A--162359 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of incoming dogs. Larry must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER OR RESCUE PARTNER by Wednesday May 15th at 10 A.M. Should Larry's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Larry is a four year old male dog who came to ACCT Philly and was initially very fearful and challenging when he arrived. He is coming out of his shell more now, but would really like to be able to go to a calm home, without all the noises of a shelter. 4/23 Larry got out for some activity time today! He was easy to leash in kennel. He came right up to the door with neutral eyes and body. He was patient for leashing and came right out. When we got to the room Larry stayed much closer to me than before! He accepted some head pets and even leaned into a cheek scratch. He took some Fresh Pet from my hands very gently as well, and just hung close to me for the first couple minutes. He eventually took a lap around the room, but came back to stand near me. He flinched when I reached out to him, but there was a loud sound that happened at the same time, so the combo just overwhelmed him. We gave him a long lasting treat and he happily chewed on it a few feet away. When he was done with his chew he came up to me and shyly accepted a few head pets. He's still unsure and scared of some handling, but he allows some and he's learning to trust, slowly but surely. During a followup behavioral assessment on 4/21, staff noted: "Larry was very nervous in the room, but was much better today! He came to the front of kennel and was nervous but allowed easy leashing today. Outside Larry remained nervous and unsure of his surroundings. He was very timid and walked low tot he ground with a low untucked tail and wide eyes. He was initially a bit avoidant in the room but came over for some fresh pet. he took it gently from my hands when offered and ate it off the ground as well. He would shy away and flinch when touching him appearing very uncomfortable. He was not reactive but with any handling would flinch and run away. I sat on the ground continuing to feed him fresh pet for several minutes and would do tiny spurts of handling. As time went on he became less averse to handling and would tolerate it without flinching and ducking away. He allowed me to pet his back, head, and sides without issue. He remained quite nervous though and needs a very slow approach. Making rescue only for now due to high levels of fear but likely can be available in a few days if he improves. During an initial behavioral assessment on 4/20, staff noted: "Could not fully handle at time of eval, would get tense, whale eye, lip lick at any amount of touch, even just finger tips. Start on meds and reassess in a couple days. 5/12 volunteer noted 5/12 notes : Larry is another shelter dog that people have passed by and he just hasn't found anyone to appreciate his shy, calm manner. He was nervous when he first arrived, but he's improved a lot. He is recovering from his cold, but has no other health issues, and behaviorally he's just shy, and a tad nervous. I know there is someone who is looking for a companion just like him and will understand that he needs a slow approach and gentle handling. He's approximately 4 yrs old, well-behaved boy in his kennel, often found sleeping. He's trying to stay house-trained, has a beautiful coat, big head, could gain some pounds, has a cute black heart shape on his nose and his little tongue seems to have a mind of it's own. Out in the yard, he is usually reserved and just content to wander in the yard, or enjoy his walks. I haven't found a toy he is interested in, but when we were out on Saturday, he had a couple short bursts of the zoomies. He approached me a couple times for pets, but wasn't overly affectionate. He doesn't seem to know to sit when asked, but takes the treats nicely. He pulls while walking so we did a short jog, and he had a nice straight pace. I can't say for sure that he is a jogger/runner, but he seemed to enjoy it. During an intake exam on 4/19, staff observed that Larry was red-eyed, his coat was dirty, but weren't able to closely examine his ears and teeth due to his behavior. They noted he was "very tense during intake exam, not fond of handling. When medical staff first evaluated Larry, he was found to be very fearful but apparently healthy with no obvious signs of illness or injury. On 4/26 it was determined that Larry had contracted and upper respiratory infection and he was treated with doxycycline. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313
