Meet Soldier! This cutie recently made his way into our shelter. Soldier is dog friendly and a big sweetie! He is considered a special care animal due to a history of being under socialized and needing behavioral medication as an aid. He is on fluoxetine and trazadone for his anxiety and his adopters should develop a relationship with a private vet comfortable with behavioral medication. He will need to stay on his fluoxetine but the trazadone can eventually be tapered off. Soldier can be nervous when meeting new people, but he is showing that he can warm up when given time and space to meet new people on his terms. Soldier has gained a lot more confidence and trust in people since coming into our care. He can be a little uncertain of new people at first but once he trusts you there is no dog more loyal or loving. When out he loves to sniff and explore new places, I hope you love piggy snorts because soldier is the king of making those adorable little noises when sniffing. Soldier loves to help out and be a part of what people are doing, it doesn't matter how big or small the task is soldier is ready to support you. Soldier loves treats and attention; on walks he is great about staying close to you and is always checking to make sure you are still with him. Soldier has meet with several dogs and has remained loose, curious, and playful. Though soldier has come a long way it is important for adopters to give him time and space. Building his trust in you and confidence in himself is going to be important to continue in his new home. Structure, love, patience, and praise are key components that will help soldier to continue on his journey to building his trust in you and confidence in himself. If soldier sounds like the right companion for you come and meet him today!
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Soldier, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
