Nick is a shar pei mix that literally drew the short straw when it came to us finding his forever family. Like most rescues we check references and do a home visit and meet the family. We read applications and pay attention to what would make you return a dog...guess we assumed wrong when Nick's family put Nothing. Nick was adopted as an 8 week old puppy who was super cute with lots of wrinkles. Nick is now a 10 month old boy who is 65 lb boy who has been a bit traumatized when his owner dropped him off at the local shelter let alone what happened to him before he arrived at the shelter. Thankfully the staff contacted us and we were able to secure Nick back to Pei People. We are working on building his confidence. He can use some leash training...yep its true if you dump your dog in the shelter you probably have never taken them on a walk. He is doing great with the dogs in his foster home. He would do best in a home with other confident playful dogs. He has done well with cats and kids. He is crate trained and knows how to use a dog door but will also go to the door to let you know he needs to go outside. His coat was in terrible shape most likely from living outside but has improved significantly with a bath and brushing. He has had entropion surgery which has resolved his squinty left eye! He has done well with both men and women but this guy clearly has been strong armed in his previous home so we would love a family that will show some patience with this guy. He wants to please and is super treat motivated. He does know Sit! He has had zero issues ear infections. His coat is more of a horse coat. His foster mom has been calling him the Kissy Monster so gives you an idea of how sweet this guy is with someone he just met. Nick's ideal family would be active. He is great chilling on the couch but this guy is looking to expand his horizons beyond the backyard. He would love to go to coffee shops and outdoor cafes. Camping would be right up his alley especially if it involves his favorite person or people.. He would be a great hiking or running partner but would be just as happy walking around the neighborhood. We have promised Nick we will do better finding his forever home the second time around. We got this Nick! Nick's foster mom made a great list with regard to Nick -Loves people and seeks out attention -House trained and Crate trained -Loves toys but will shred soft today but is a huge fan of BeneBones -Walked right into the shower with the water running for his bath which might have been the first one in his short life -If you are looking for a big, goofy and somewhat clumsy adolescent dog this is your guy. You get to skip the potty training as he is completely housetrained. Completely trust worthy in the house when you are gone as long as you leave him a great bed and a bone to chew on. -Enjoys the company of other dogs but would also be fine as an only dog.September 16, 2024, 5:40 pm
