Waffles is as sweet as his name suggests! Originally found as a stray in a park during the summer or 2024, he was adopted but returned when his family’s long work hours left him without the attention he deserves. This handsome guy loves outdoor adventures, tug-of-war, and fetch—but he's just as happy snoozing under a blanket, snuggled between your legs. Waffles is crate-trained (though he may whine a little when you first leave), mostly housebroken, and knows "sit" Waffles would thrive in an active home with plenty of playtime, cuddles, and a soft bed to call his own. If you're looking for a loving goofball to be your one and only, Waffles is waiting for you! 🧇❤️ Meet Waffles at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10 am to 6 pm VIDEOS BEHAVIOR 04/24/2025 staff notes, playgroup: Intense at the gate, reactive, had to be muzzled, pushy, uninterested of male, good greeting with submissive female in yard, became confrontational with other male in yard when muzzle was removed. 04/23/2025 staff notes, playgroup: Unable to introduce into the yard, reactive at gate, intense fixation on dogs in yard, handlers did not feel comfortable. Will try and bring out to the yard for assessment at a later date. PREVIOUS SHELTER STAY NOTES & VIDOES: Per Volunteer 8/2/24: Poor Waffles hadn't been out with a volunteer in 4 days. He is a skinny boy and has dry flaky skin, so he'll need a good diet once he is adopted. He was excited to see me, but was easy to leash, and walked nicely. In the covered yard, I sat down on the wooden board and he crawled on me looking for pets - he might think he is a lap dog. It was a hot day and he has a cold, so I'm not sure what his energy level normally is, but he was actually low to medium for me. At one point, he saw or heard something outside of the yard and gave a warning bark, but then stopped. Eventually he just laid down very nicely so I could pet him. I hated to cut our time short bc he is a really cute easy pup. He walked nicely back to his kennel. Per volunteer 7/26/24: Waffles presented to the front of kennel and was excited to be leashed. Once leashed he walked nicely through the kennels. Once outside he peed and pooped. Waffles saw another dog and pulled eagerly towards them. We proceeded to do a dog meet. Waffles appropriately sniffed and greeted them. The other dog was excitable and Waffles was tolerant of them jumping on him. After the dog meet he walked very nicely and right by my side throughout the parking lot. He knows sit. He did well for another dog meet with a high energy dog. Waffles and the other dog walked nicely with each other throughout the parking lot. Waffles was easily returned to kennel. Per volunteer 7/24/24: Waffles was very easy to handle for me today! He was my last dog and I was very tired but he walks sooo nicely on leash. Just some slight pulling. He greeted me super wiggly and was very excited to jump out of the kennel after leashing. Outside he showed me that he loves treats! Takes them very nicely and sometimes knows sit lol. Super friendly boy, loves rubs all over! he sometimes got a little jumpy trying to get attention from me but was pretty gentle about it. No issues getting back into kennel! Per staff on 7/15/24: A volunteer had Waffles out yesterday and when returning him to kennel he began to flail and would not enter the kennel. She ended up locking herself in the kennel with him and couldnt get back out without him escaping and waited for a staff member to walk by to help her. Per Staff 7/15/24: In kennel waffles with wiggly at the front with soft eyes and mid level wags. He allowed me to easily leash him and exited eagerly. No issues when returning, he hopped right into kennel and I removed the leash clip method. Waffles was very aroused outside. he was jumping, mouthing, and slamming into me while outside most of the time. he is very high energy and desperately needs outlets for his energy. he was friendly outside with me leaning in for pets and soliciting often- but would quickly become over aroused and begin to mouth and jump at me again. When another handler entered he initially had raised hackles and barked at her but then softened and became very wiggly and overstimulated, however remained very focused on her in the room and her movements. very aroused with play and would jump, mouth hard, pull on clothes. He would calm down for food or turning your back to him Medical Notes: 7/26/24: Coughing incessantly w/ seromucoid nasal discharge Still BAR w/ normal RR/RE Assessment Complicated URI w/ concern for progression to pneumonia 7/17/24: This dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection. 7/13/24: Eyes - reddening Ears - clean Nose - clear Mouth/Teeth/Gums - minimal staining Coat & Skin - No fleas found. Urogenital - Male, intact Gait/Mobility - No lameness Attitude: BAR, Friendly, Sweet, Silly, Perfect Overall Assessment: An exquisite young man in healthy condition, absolutely perfect.
