Bixby von Marne

My story

Bixby von Marne is a gorgeous, 12-month-old Retriever/Shepherd/? mix. He is a golden boy inside and out. He has the best temperament, just sweetness and light. He has never reacted to another dog, even if they have gone after him. He was even a favorite at doggy daycare. He is housebroken and good in the house, especially when he has some toys to chew on. He isn’t a big barker. Bixby needs another dog in his new home to romp and play with. He has some puppy energy to burn, but unfortunately, his former family was too busy to give him the exercise he needed. He was aways good with the 5 year old (now 6) child in the home, but the 3 year old toddler wanted to play with him like a littermate, which is never a good idea. He will need a home with older children or children who respect the boundaries with dogs. He has had professional training. He walks well on a leash and knows some commands. We are having our trainers refresh his skills some. Bixby would be such a great addition to the right family! Come meet him and fall in love! Rescued from the Lancaster animal shelter. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
