**$90 in pledges for the rescue that pulls** VICTORY ACCT-A-173265 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Victory must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th at at 10:00 a.m. Should Victory's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Victory is a female young adult mixed breed pup who was brought to ACCT as a stray. At first, Victory was so scared and shut down, becoming defensive when staff or volunteers tried to handle her or show affection. Even treats only helped her make so much progress. Soon, however, a staff member landed on the trick-toys! Victory loves toys-squeaky toys, stuffed toys, she's not picky, she just loves to have something to play with. Staff and volunteers have both noted that Victory's whole demeanor changes when toys are involved-she shows excitement, enjoys play, and is just a much more confident pup! Victory has had good dog meets in the shelter and may do well with a companion pup to help build her confidence. She certainly seems to enjoy having an emotional support toy, which we know will lead to many adorable photos and videos in the years to come! If you're up for providing a steady supply of various toys and the structure and reassurance she needs to build her confidence and thrive in a forever home, Victory is the dog for you! Absolutely no issues leashing her, opened the kennel door and leashed immediately on the first try. Her kennel board said she is reactive for leashing but that was not my experience. Greeted me loose and wiggly at the front of the kennel. Outside, she loved romping around the play yard. She found a stuff reindeer toy that she was obsessed with. She was romping around the yard with it in her mouth and took pets from me while still holding it. She ended up carrying it all the way to the shelter photoshoot we did and posed with the reindeer too! Took it back into her kennel and went into kennel no problem 9/13/24 volunteer notes: Victory was easy to leash and walks well- minimal pulling. She went to the bathroom outside quickly so she appears to be trying to stay housetrained. She initially was sniffing a lot in the dog run, but as soon as I had a squeaky toy, she was so excited and playful. She traded them nicely and was fine to disengage. Ashe would fetch and return the toys. She is a very cute dog who is in great shape. Allowed handling all over- no concerns. 9/5/24 KENNEL PRESENTATION: When approaching in kennel Victory was very tense and fearful. She immediately raised her hackles and gave the handler hard eye contact and began to growl. The handler crouched down by the door and tried to coax her forward but she remained in place. When the handler tried to lasso her she began to snap at the leash and would not release it for a few seconds. It took several attempts to get the leash over her head. Once secured she exited the kennel slowly without issue and remained low, tense, raised hackles, lip licking. LEASH SKILLS: -Pulled minimally HANDLING: In the yard Victory untucked her tail and wandered around on leash for the first few minutes. We held her on leash due to her behavior. After a few minutes the handler attempted to lightly touch her back and she tucked her tail, lip licked and began to hard stare at the handler. The handler stopped touching her and Victory backed away trying to end the interaction. The handler offered some high value treats instead and Victory would slowly and cautiously approach and took the treats when offered from her. She slowly warmed up with time but remained very hesitant to handling and was uncomfortable with physical touch- moving away, lip licking, some whale eye. PLAY -No interest TOYS: When given a squeaky toy Victory perked up immediately. It changed her entire persona. She was so excited and bounced around with the toy in her mouth- also easily allowed us to take the toy directly from her. Having a toy really helped her! Medical notes: Per an intake exam on 9/4: Victory was noted to be in good general health. Due to ACCT being significantly over capacity with dogs and cats, timestamps may be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ . All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia; as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
