My story

Hey, future best friend—Waylon here!I’m a 2-year-old Akita-Collie mix with a sharp mind, a big heart, and the kind of energy that’s just waiting for the right partner in adventure. I weigh around 50 pounds, which means I’m the perfect medium-large size for road trips, long walks, couch cuddles, and everything in between.Let’s get one thing out of the way: I am wicked smart. I pick up on new things lightning fast and love to figure things out. Want a dog who can learn tricks, follow commands, or even pick up a few chores around the house? I’m your guy. I’ve had over a month of one-on-one training with a professional dog trainer, and let me tell you—I nailed it. I already know commands like “sit,” “no,” and my name, and I’m a rockstar at leash walking. My trainer is even happy to help answer any follow-up questions once I go home with you!Despite a tough start (I was hit by a car as a puppy and had to recover from a head injury), I bounced back stronger and more determined than ever. The amazing veterinary team saved my life, and when space opened up, the folks at HSO took me in and helped me keep growing into the smart, playful, loyal dog I am today.I’m incredibly affectionate, super observant, and have a naturally protective side when it comes to the people I love—but I’m quiet most of the time and only speak up when it counts. I get along great with other big dogs, though I do have a little resource guarding around food, so I’ll just need to be fed separately (easy fix, I promise). I’m not a fan of small dogs or cats, so a home without them would be best. Now let’s talk FUN. I’m all about playing ball, tug-of-war, and best of all—WATER! Hose, puddle, kiddie pool—you name it, I’m in it. If you’re looking for a buddy to make the most of the summer with, I’ll be right there splashing by your side.I’m also fully house-trained, know how to use a doggie door, and ride like a pro in the car. Whether we’re hiking, learning a new trick, or curled up on the couch after a fun day together, I’ll be happiest just being part of your world. So, if you’re looking for a brilliant, silly, active, and loyal sidekick with just the right mix of brains and goofiness, we really ought to meet. I’ve got so much love to give—and I think you just might be the one I’ve been waiting for. 💙Call the shelter at 479-394-5682 to meet me, ask questions, or set up a playdate. I can’t wait to start our adventure together!****************All animals at HSO are current on their vaccinations and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. If not already spayed/neutered, there may be a short delay between when you select this pet and when they are ready to go home.Breed and age are determined based on observable physical traits. Actual lineage and birth date are rarely known.Adoption Fees:-$60 for cats-$60 for dogs over 6 years-$80 for dogs 6 months old to 6 years-$100 for puppies up to 6 monthsCome visit our pets Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-2pm.
