My story

NOTE: RILEY IS WITH HER PEOPLE IN SOUTH SACRAMENTO. GSRSV HAS MET RILEY AND WE ARE LISTING HER FOR ADOPTION ON THIS WEBSITE ALONG WITH OUR OWN DOGS TO GIVE HER MORE ADOPTION EXPOSURE. PLEASE SEE END OF THIS PROFILE FOR CONTACT INFO. "Riley" is an approx 50-lb, 3.5 yo intact female GSD who is energetic, affectionate and smart. She is healthy and up-to-date on her distemper/parvo and rabies vaccinations. Riley is friendly with people of all ages. She is not overly protective, and I (GSRSV’s Director) was able to pet her inside a vehicle when I first met her. Riley presently lives with two children, ages 7 & 9 yrs old, who she is fine with. Riley is somewhat of a mixed bag when it comes to other dogs. She has been an only dog for most of her life, with limited canine socialization. She is very reactive towards other dogs who she sees when on walks. However, she got along quite well with several of the dogs at GSRSV’s rescue ranch, indicating that her on-leash reactiveness is not due to innate aggressiveness. Still, if Riley were to be paired w/ another dog, we suggest it be a confident, large male dog. Riley has not been around cats that we know, so a home WITHOUT CATS is in order for her. Riley’s people have kept her outside for all the time they’ve had her (nearly her entire life). However, a woman (Sabrina) who is now assisting the people find Riley a new home has had Riley in her house for several hours and Riley did not have an accident inside. So, while we can’t say that Riley is fully housetrained, she would likely become so in short order. Riley does have a tendency to jump up on people (in a friendly manner) when she first encounters them but this is understandable given that Riley’s people keep her isolated in a kennel in the backyard with limited human contact. She is just so starved for attention and affection! Riley enjoys riding in a vehicle and is fairly calm when traveling. Riley enjoys biting the water stream from a hose and will likely enjoy playing fetch. Riley is presently in South Sacramento with her original people. These people have kept Riley in their back yard since she was a puppy, primarily inside a chain-link kennel. Sabrina convinced the people to let her find a more appropriate home for Riley and has since spent quite a bit of time with her. Notes from GSRSV: Riley is what I consider a typical working-type GSD. She is extremely inquisitive, energetic and always on alert. She would likely be great at agility or similar working-type activities. She will also need a somewhat experienced adopter who can help her release the pent-up energy she has from being confined for so long. Riley has yet to be spayed. There is no adoption fee for her. However, a $500 refundable deposit will be required of Riley's adopter to ensure that she is spayed within 90 days of adoption. Once evidence of spaying is provided, the $500 will be refunded. This will all be in writing and a receipt will be provided to the adopter. Riley is in South Sacramento. Please contact Sabrina Escandon at 916-308-5651 or Sabrina.Escandon@ctlmanagement.com.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Riley, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
