My story

UPDATE ON NULA!!!  Nula Update 5/14/2025:Nula has been with us for the past 7 months. She just celebrated her first birthday on March 16th. Nula has blossomed quite a bit since she first came into the rescue as a neglected, underweight, hairless, flea and tick ridden puppy. Nula loves other dogs, cats and kittens of all ages and sizes. We foster kittens and she is especially excited to be around the little ones. She isextremely playful, always ready and desiring to run with my other dogs in the yard. For her mental and physical well being, in addition to daily walks, Nula will need a large yard and another dog in the home. She absolutely lives for her daily walks and especially enjoys hiking in the woods. She does tend tokeep pressure on the leash but she is not an overly aggressive puller. It helps to walk her on a flexi leash which gives her more room to “explore” versus feeling confined to a heal position. She does not react to any type of dog on walks even if they are reactive toward her. She’s always willing to be petted by strangers. Children are especially drawn to her gentle nature and delicate frame. Nula is fantastic on car rides, either loose enjoying the view or crated. When Nula first came to us we had issues with her chewing property – window frames, door frames, shoes. She had no concept of what was off limits since she was raised outside without any structure (and was a puppy). We realized she needed more structure and so we kept her crated when unsupervised. She is and was always exceptional at crating. Say “crate” and she runs to it. She still happily sleeps in her crate and doesn’t make a sound until we greet her in the morning. We have let her sleep on our bed which she equally enjoys. We do allow her 90% unsupervised time in our home now but continue to crate her if we will be gone for an extended period of time as a precautionary measure. She has never shown any signs of aggression. Nula does bark at my miniature horses or sometimes a dog in a neighboring yard, but is getting much better at stopping when we call to her. If you’re looking for a small (35 lb) dog with loads of energy to take on daily walks or keep your other dog(s) company, she’s your girl." Nula will need a home with an above ground securely fenced yard as she has ever been on leash and remains very fearful of people and is considered a flight risk at this time. Nula is an English shepherd/ Lab mix who loves the outdoors. (see DNA results in pictures section) is new to her foster home and they have a WONDERFUL update... "I’ve been fostering her for only 5 days and she’s already proving to be a diamond in the rough! While she was timid when she first arrived, she was cuddling with her new big brother by the end of the evening... AND, she has been fine with my indoor cats too. She helped me wrap Christmas gifts, as she loves to be a part of everything!  She was one of the seized dogs in the Spencer County hoarding case and I couldn’t resist having DNA testing done. Turns out she is 45% English Shepherd, 34% yellow lab. They suspect Ruby is her mother. Her behavior, temperament, EVERYTHING screams English Shepherd. (If you have one of the dogs who have a similar appearance to Nula, I’d be curious to compare characteristics!) Nula loves talking long walks, especially enjoying sniffing all the incredible smells in nature. She has boundless energy and loves running after and herding her canine friends both young and old.  When she’s not playing she can be found curled up napping on mommy’s side of the bed. Nula is crate trained, potty trained, knows some basic commands and is great with dogs and cats. She doesn’t guard toys or food. Nula would enjoy a family that enjoys spending lots of time outdoors.  She is as sweet as can be and loves to play outside and go hiking. I’ve already done a couple 3+ mile hikes with her, with energy to spare. Although her silky blonde coat is sparse, it’s going to be so beautiful when it grows back. When she finds her forever home, she really would do best with a 4-legged buddy who can help show her the ropes!" A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions. It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.  If you would like to donate to Nula's care, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/rescue-for-dogs-in-deplorable-conditions And check back for more updated on Nula, but if you would like to meet her, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2190864##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nula, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
