Chill, Social Butterfly, Inquisitive Contrary to his name, Lemon adds sweetness to every day! He is extremely social - always following along right behind you and happily making all visitors feel at home. He is fine with being picked up, doesn't make a fuss when he's in the car and he is an absolute dream at the vet! Lemon most likely was an outdoor kitty prior to arriving at the shelter. He was discovered outside during the investigation of a dog hoarding case. He kept rubbing against the rescuers and was so friendly, that they just couldn’t leave this sweet boy behind! Lemon has a calm demeanor with occasional bursts of playful energy. His favorite toy is the fabric teaser wand...not really surprising since he loves chasing fast moving targets! He also loves chewing on things like foam and diving into boxes in search of treats. He is very curious - if you open a door or cabinet, he's always waiting and ready to explore what's inside! He also likes to climb high up and look out the window to check out what's going on in the neighborhood. You can always count on Lemon to make you feel like the very BEST part of his day! When he sees you or hears you his tail and ears perk up and he comes over to say hi with happy trills and meows. Walk out of the bathroom and you'll be treated like a superstar! He is food motivated and loves to chat about his day and never fails to ask you about yours. He knows his name and comes when he's called and he understands and complies when you tell him "no" - he's a smart kitty! He's silly too and a bit clumsy - he sometimes slips and slides across the floor, making him feel extra excited and playful...wheeee! Lemon loves to rub and bunt against you at every opportunity and enjoys getting pets on his soft cheeks and chin. He will sometimes stop by and stand in your lap. It's just a matter of time before he decides to stay there a while - we definitely see snuggling in his future! He likes to lay in his bed by the couch, which always includes prepping a batch of biscuits. He also does some expert kneading when he gets on the couch with you and was even whipping some up when he was in his carrier on the car ride home with his foster! Lemon didn't seemed fazed by other cats during his stay at the vet. We think he would enjoy a feline playmate with a slow introduction. He has been kept separate from the resident dog in his foster home. But, he seems to ignore dogs for the most part. He would likely be okay with a young, playful pup or with an older, cat-friendly dog. Lemon's ideal home would be a bustling one where he gets lots of attention and plenty of playtime. Older kids would be fine and he would probably enjoy a furry playmate too! He is in his happy place when there's a lot of activity, so if you have a constant stream of friends coming over, Lemon will surely want in on the fun! He doesn't seem spooked by noise or really anything and is such an amazing cat! Make your life Lemony fresh by contacting us for an intro! Lemon has tested positive for Feline Leukemia. FeLV is not a type of cancer. It's a virus that causes a weaker immune system and often a shorter life-span. For the most part, 'FeLVies' are just like any other cat. APA! waives the adoption fees of these cats, and provides FeLV-related treatment and support post-adoption. Lemon can only live with other FeLV+ cats, but dogs and other animals are just fine! Any questions? We'd love to talk with you about FeLV care. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Lemon, please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lemon, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
