My story

Meet Buddy, a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever with a big personality and an even bigger heart! Originally rescued from the Bahamas, he came to Big Dog Ranch in search of a better life. Since arriving, Buddy has been adopted twice—but returned both times due to his high energy and need for structure and training. Now he’s looking for the right match: an experienced, active owner who’s ready for a loyal companion full of life and potential. Buddy is incredibly smart, food-motivated, and eager to learn. He already knows basic commands and is a quick study when it comes to new tricks—especially if treats are involved! He’s also a huge fan of car rides and will happily hop in for your next adventure. He loves his people and is always down for cuddle time after a good play session. While he enjoys toys and interaction, Buddy can be dog-selective due to his dominant personality, so slow introductions or a solo-dog home may be best. He is not suitable for a home with cats due to his high prey drive. Because of his energy and occasional mouthiness, Buddy would thrive in a home with older kids and an owner who has experience setting boundaries and providing consistent training. He walks well on a leash and would benefit from daily exercise, mental stimulation, and lots of love.
