Miss Sammie is the oldest dog in our rescue, but don’t let that fool you—this senior lady has spunk for days and a personality that will absolutely steal your heart. She’s sassy, playful, full of character, and still loves her walks, her toys, and her people. Sammie came to us in heartbreaking condition, battling stage 4 heartworm disease. Twice, we nearly lost her. But Sammie is a fighter. She beat the odds, survived treatment, and showed us all the strength and resilience packed into her sweet soul. Though the heartworms are gone, they left behind some cardiac damage, and she now has cardiomyopathy. She is doing well on medication, but her condition will need lifelong monitoring. There's no way to know exactly how much time she has—but we do know she deserves to spend every single day surrounded by love. Right now, Sammie is living in boarding. While she’s making the best of it, it’s simply not where a senior—especially a hospice senior—should be. She needs a soft place to land, someone to share her golden years with. Sammie is the queen bee and prefers to be the only pet in the home, or in a setup where she can be safely separated from other animals. But what she lacks in pet-friendliness, she more than makes up for in devotion to her people. She is overflowing with love, loyalty, and affection. Sammie will be your shadow, your cheerleader, your best friend. She’s currently learning basic obedience and doing wonderfully—proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks! She’s housebroken, fun-loving, and deeply connected to the people she trusts. Sammie is our last remaining hospice dog. She beat death—twice. Now we need someone to give her what she’s truly fighting for: a home. We’re looking for a kind and committed adopter or forever foster who can give Sammie the love, safety, and peace she deserves. Please help us rewrite her story—one with a happy ending.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sammie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
