My story

Dara and her 2 siblings were left on the shady doorstep of a local vet in a box in early June 2024. The vet tech that found them noticed a car at the far end of the parking lot. It left as soon as she picked up the box. Inside there were 3 dirty hungry kittens. There was a note inside from a finder who described herself as an elderly woman. She wrote that they appeared in her yard with no mama in sight. She said she had called multiple rescues and shelters but all were full. She said there was no way she could care for them and knew they needed care she couldn't afford. She hated to leave them anonymously but was fearful she would be turned away if she tried to deliver them in person. Dara’s brothers were free-spirited extroverts and initially Dara was more reserved. She would watch and wait before she joined in play with her siblings or her humans. She enjoyed being petted but didn’t seek out attention. As she grew older, she gained confidence and her beautiful personality emerged. Now she is the one to start the shenanigans with the other foster kittens. Now she is the one who “purrdles” when she sees her humans and freely shares her affection. Her favorite place to sleep in on my pillow above my head, watching over me as I sleep. I you are looking for a cat who will give you lots of love and companionship, Dara is the girl for you. Born 5/10/2024 Dara has had some challenges during her first year of life. She came to us with a severe eye infection which was cleared up with warm compresses and eye antibiotics. As a result, she has some scarring around the right tear duct and sometimes she will have some clear discharge from the inside of that eye. Our vet assures us her vision if fine. She is very compliant if I need to wipe her eye with a warm cloth. Then in February 2025, we heard her cry out suddenly one evening. She couldn’t walk and we rushed her to the emergency vet. Somehow, she had fractured her right hip and had to undergo surgery to remove the femoral head. The vet told us his can happen in cats under 1 year old because the growth plates of the joints are not completely fused. After 6 weeks of rest, she was as good as new—she runs, jumps, and climbs as well as any cat. Long term she should not have complications from this. If you are interested in meeting me, please contact my rescue family at MeowtownAR@gmail.com to arrange a visit with my foster home!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Dara, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
