This little lady may be a senior, but she sure doesn't act like one! Confident and friendly to whoever she meets, Precious is interested in everything! HISTORY Precious belonged to an elderly woman who got her as a gift when she was still a puppy. Her owner is now suffering from health issues and is no longer able to care for her dogs. She asked HART to find a great homes for Precious. She has been in foster care since mid-November and is now ready to go home! Precious is located in Kennewick, Eastern Washington. We advertise our dogs in other cities to optimize their chances of adoption. If necessary, we can arrange transport to an approved adoptive home within the Pacific Northwest. SOCIALIZATION Everyone is a potential friend, and Precious wastes no time in getting acquainted. Her previous owner told us she was playful and happy even with young grandchildren. She gets on well with dogs and is polite and friendly. She's not exactly friendly with the cats in her foster home, but after some initial chasing she's settled down and learned to let them be. She would probably cohabit well with a confident, dog-savvy cat. Her foster mom has some backyard poultry - chickens, turkeys and peacocks - and Precious ignores them. TEMERAMENT AND BEHAVIOR Precious loves being petted and enjoys lap time, but she's not needy. She's very content just to kick back and keep you company on your couch or wherever you happen to be. And if you go out, expect to be welcomed home with a happy dance! We were told she was playful, and if she had a playful little companion she probably would be. But in her foster home she's generally pretty laid back. She rarely barks. TRAINING Precious is just naturally a good girl - she doesn't get into stuff or chew on things she shouldn't. She's crate trained and is comfortable in a crate or pen. She doesn't know many commands, but her recall is fair (when she's not very busy following her nose), and she is comfortable on a leash. Her potty training is a work in progress; she will potty outside and will use a pad, but sometimes she misses and occasional accidents could happen unless she wears a diaper. She adjusted quickly to her foster home, and soon learned the household rules and routines. HEALTH STATUS According to her original owner she was born in about 2010 - but based on her general demeanor and condition we believe she may be younger. (The owner had multiple little dogs, all of who have been given up due to her declining health.) She weighs around 8 lbs and appears to be in excellent health, with no indication of arthritis or vision loss. However her teeth have some tartar and need cleaning within about six months of adoption. Precious was one of a large pack of Chihuahuas used for low-key backyard breeding - we're told she had one litter. She has now been spayed and brought up to date with vaccinations, as well as dewormed and microchipped.
