NOTE: THIS PUPPY IS NOT SUITED FOR A HOME WITH SMALL CHILDREN Spike is a spirited and intelligent Pembroke Welsh Corgi who is looking for a home where he can truly thrive. Born on October 27, 2024, and with his tail still intact, he has been in the care of our rescue since Christmas, receiving guidance from an experienced dog trainer. Spike has been progressing well with his training, learning basic commands like "sit" and "come to a shaker," and he's making good progress on leash skills and the “watch me” command. Though still a puppy, he's already showing a love for outdoor play, especially chasing balls, and he's working hard on housebreaking with the patience he needs for success. While Spike has a strong, independent personality, it's important to note that he may not be the right fit for a family with young children. He is not the typical "family dog"—he’s a working dog at heart. Spike would thrive in a setting where his energy and intelligence can be channeled productively, such as a ranch or a large property where he can run, work, and tire himself out. A person experienced with herding breeds will be key to understanding his needs and providing the structure he craves. Spike doesn’t enjoy excessive cuddling or being lavished with affection—he's much more independent—but he enjoys engaging in games like tug-of-war and command-based activities. He loves spending time outdoors, laying in the sun, and playing with other dogs. At night, he sleeps soundly without a peep, demonstrating his ability to settle down when needed. Spike has a lot of potential to be a wonderful companion for the right adopter. However, we’re being very selective in finding him a forever home because we want to ensure he’s matched with someone who can meet his needs. While he's a beautiful puppy, Spike needs more than just a loving home—he needs an experienced owner who understands his working dog instincts and can provide the environment he requires to thrive. Spike is neutered and up-to-date on his age-appropriate vaccinations, and we are confident that with the right guidance, he will grow into a well-mannered, dedicated companion.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Spike , please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
