My story

MEDICAL DEADLINEName: PennsyAnimal ID: A860423Age: 1yWeight: 56lbs URGENT- Pennsy is an INCREDIBLY sweet girl who needs a lifeline by 5pm on 2/15/25!!Pennsy came to the shelter as a stray and started winning hearts immediately- she has a sweet smile and a tail wag for everyone she meets, and she loves nothing more than a good belly rub! She’s a sweet puppy who loves to play, loves cuddles, and adores her humans. Here’s what one volunteer said:“Pennsy is very attentive to her handler, and was picking up on loose-leash walking and attentiveness training on our walk today. She knows sit and is learning shake and touch. She will melt in your lap if you rub her ears!”Pennsy is in urgent need of placement as she has tested positive distemper virus. Our under-vaccinated community has put our shelter at risk for respiratory outbreaks, including distemper. We have been seeing an increase in sick dogs being brought to our shelter and testing positive for this virus. This virus can be fatal for unvaccinated animals, especially puppies, and can prolong recovery time in stressful shelter environment.Adult dogs with distemper have a better chance fighting the virus in a home. THERE IS NO RISK TO OTHER VACCINATED ADULT DOGS. Pennsy will go home with medications to resolve her symptoms. Distemper virus can have a variety of symptoms like URI symptoms, GI symptoms or neurological symptoms. Here’s what on staff member said:“Pennsy is the BEST girl! She is so people friendly, loves toys, is food motivated and has done well in playgroup while she was allowed to attend. She is a volunteer and staff favorite! While Pennsy has Distemper Virus, she is doing very well with her symptoms and seems to only have a cough, but she is not able to stay in the shelter due to being contagious to the other animals in the shelter.”Pennsy has shared her kennel politely and has been social and easygoing when meeting other dogs in playgroup. PLEASE come meet this sweet, playful girl today! EMAIL PACC.MEDICALFOSTER@PIMA.GOV IF INTERESTED OR HAVE QUESTIONSAvailable for long term foster care 30+ days or PRE-adoption through PACC.Adoption/Foster Process:Interested parties • Must visit PACC before the Saturday, 5:00 PM February 15, 2025, deadline to meet with an adoption or foster counselor who will go over notes and then introduce you to ensure that it’s a good fit.PA
