Name, age, breed: Jimmy (Jimathy), 4 years old, hound/mixLikes: going for walks/runs, being around people, being pet, learning new tricksDislikes: being overstimulatedWhat would be the ideal home? A home with an experience owner with breed experience is recommended. Jimathy will need to continue seeing a trainer while in his forever home to continue to work on his current training plan. Jimathy needs to be mentally and physically stimulated throughout the day, and would do best with a routine. Jimathy has shown guarding behaviour in the past, therefore it is always recommended to have a quiet place with no one around dedicated to where he is fed. He needs to eat in peace, and not be disturbed. It is recommended to not take things from him, but show him something else to `trade` for the item you want. We don`t recommend giving Jimathy high valued treats unless in a separate area. Good with other cats? No due to prey drive Good with dogs? Unknown – but possible (he doesn’t react to leashed dogs while on walks or if he sees one through a window)Good with children? No as he has shown guarding behaviour in the past Temperament: Friendly, active! He “assesses and responds” to what others in the house are doing. For example, if you are on the couch doing work, watching tv, etc, he will find a spot to relax. However, if you are hyper/excited/being loud, he will replicate that energy and be more hyper. Motivators? Treats! He understands basic commands (sit, lay down, down) when a treat is on the line. Any commands? Sit, lay down, down, working on- drop it, leave it, place. Currently being muzzle trained as he can be be mouthy when overstimulated.House trained? Yes Crate trained? Yes How long will it take to settle into a new environment? 1-2 days. He’ll need the first day to adapt to a new setting. He will be very excited and may be overly hyper, but try to be strict on boundaries with where he can/can’t go. For example, if he can’t go on furniture (bed, coach, etc.) pull him off, say “down” or “no” and then redirect his attention (he responds really well to this). By day 2-3 he will have a much better understanding of routine and what he’s allowed/not allowed to do. Any special needs or traits an adopter should know? He may jump on people when meeting them for the first time. It is not aggressive at all; it may just catch someone off guard, so warning them prior
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Jimathy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
