My story

We are seeking a very special home for our super sweet boy, Nubby. We were first contacted about Nubby when a dedicated colony caretaker saw him one day with a significant and infected wound on his neck/upper back. Luckily, we were able to take him in and monitor throughout his lengthy healing process. We are ecstatic to say that after months of bandages and fashionable shirts, Nubby's wound is now completely healed! His fur may never grow back in the affected area, but we think his heart-shaped scar goes to show how loving this former street cat is!Nubby got his name from the severe trauma he sustained to his tail while surviving in the wild. The injury left him only a small piece of tail remaining and irreparable nerve damage. As a result of this, Nubby does not have the best anal tone, and though he does defecate in the litter box about 95% of the time, he occasionally has accidents. To address this, we have Nubby on a high fiber diet to help his stool stay formed and easier to pass. Now for the more difficult part. Nubby also has issues with inappropriate urination and spraying, despite being neutered for some time now. In regard to the urination, we have done repeated blood work, urinalysis and imaging and there is nothing that we can isolate from a medical standpoint as being the root cause. Nubby is more likely to spray when first introduced to a new environment or other animals, but since being moved to a new room with his feline friend, he has not sprayed once! We think this is likely a stress issue that will might resolve or be very limited once he is in a home environment, but we cannot guarantee that the issue will go away completely. Despite his injuries and the severe trauma he endured, Nubby has remained the most affectionate, laid back, and loving cat we have seen at the shelter in quite some time. He loves to be held and pet by the staff and has always been a staff and volunteer favorite for his silly mannerisms and goofy personality. Nubby loves soft, fuzzy blankets and beds to snuggle into, and will happily roll around in catnip all day long if you let him. He is a great model for photoshoots and takes it like a champ whenever we dress him up in silly outfits! He is incredibly curious and likes to explore and wander around the shelter to meet the other cats in our care, and everyone recognizes him for his bobcat looks and his "bunny hop" way of running! We know that Nubby comes with a lot of needs, but we think that he is worth it for every bit! We are all dreaming of the day that he can go home with a loving family that gives him all the snuggles and play time he could ask for. We are happy to answer any further questions regarding his behavior or special needs. Please reach out to catkennel@rbari.org for more information. Primary Color: Brown Tabby Age: 2yrs 8mths 3wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nubby, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
