Kimo (About 3 years old as of December, 2024) is a neutered male white with brown tabby shorthaired cat. Kimo lived his whole life in a big feral cat colony in Waukegan until one day a Spay and Stay volunteer helped one of his caretakers start trapping cats to get fixed. When she brought Kimo home from his neuter surgery to recover she was shocked by how friendly he was! The people in his neighborhood liked the cats and pet them when they could so they were friendlier than most truly feral cats, but Kimo was absolutely desperate for human attention and just went nuts for pets bashing into everything. He immediately took to living inside and it's clear Kimo would be happiest as a cherished indoor pet. He gets along okay with other cats although really playful young kittens annoy him too much, he'd be better with an older cat that didn't want to bug him or as a spoiled only kitty. We're not sure how Kimo feels about dogs- we'd be willing to do a trial run with a dog with cat experience! Kimo is still learning to be picked up; he can be a bit squirmy and awkward about that since he's a massive lump of muscle and he can be a little sensitive about excessive petting in certain areas, too, so we think he's best for families with older kids. Kimo's one special health issue is that he tested positive for FIV, a slowly replicating virus that may suppress his immune system and make him more susceptible to infections and cancer, but most FIV+ cats live to be seniors. It is transmissible to other cats, but only through deep bite wounds, so we are happy to place Kimo with a non-FIV+ kitty as long as it seems like a good personality match and the adopters agree to an extra slow introduction. We're happy to consider it a trial run until we're sure he's compatible! av
