My story

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please email the adoption counselor:  lisastern.tr@gmail.com  and request an adoption application.  Dog's Name:  Pearl Estimated Breed :  Poodle Mix Approximate Age: 7 yrs Approximate Weight:  11 lbs Currently Living at:  Foster Adoption Fee:  $400   DOG'S DESCRIPTION:  Meet Pearl – A Heart Ready to Heal Some dogs arrive ready to give you their whole heart on day one. Others, like Pearl, carry invisible scars — and they need someone special to help them believe in love again. Pearl has had a rough start in life. She spent her early years as a breeder dog in a puppy mill, where love was never offered and trust was never earned. After being sold to someone unprepared for her deep fear of people, she was thankfully vetted and given a second chance to find the home she truly needs. Now, she’s waiting for that one in a million person to show her what kindness really feels like.   A Gentle Soul, Learning to Trust Pearl is not aggressive — she has not a mean bone in her body — but she is deeply unsure around people. If you get too close, she’ll quietly slip away. She doesn’t bark for attention. She doesn’t seek out affection. She’s just trying to figure out how to exist in a world she was never prepared for. But here’s the glimmer of hope: she wants to learn. You can see it in her eyes, in the way she watches other dogs, in the way she cautiously explores her surroundings a little more each day.   Learning Life, One Step at a Time As a former puppy mill dog, Pearl is starting from scratch. She: Is not yet housetrained, but is working on using pee pads Is unfamiliar with leashes and stairs Will howl in a crate or x-pen when she feels isolated What she is, though, is energetic, sweet, and ready to grow — with the right person guiding her.   The Home She Deserves Pearl’s ideal home is one filled with patience, peace, and gentleness: A quiet, child-free environment A fenced yard where she can safely explore A confident, friendly dog to show her how to "dog" An adopter with rescue experience and a commitment to the long road ahead She doesn't need perfection — she just needs consistency, kindness, and time.   Why Pearl? Because dogs like Pearl are why rescue exists. She won’t greet you at the door with a wagging tail just yet. But one day — maybe after weeks, maybe after months — she’ll approach you on her own, and you’ll know that moment came because you earned it. You’ll know that trust, for her, wasn’t given lightly — it was a gift born of love and patience. And in that moment, every tear, every slow step forward, every quiet hour spent just sitting nearby… it will all be worth it. If you think you might be the one to show Pearl what home really means, please reach out. She’s waiting — not just for a place to live, but for a heart to believe in. Apply now to give Pearl the forever she’s never had, but always deserved. Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (for dogs over 6 months old), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, Hatton Animal Rescue spends significantly more on each dog than the adoption fee.
