Meet Igloo! 9-year-old Igloo and his brother entered the San Diego Humane Society together after their owner was hospitalized. Their condition on intake was poor, so they were seized due to inadequate vet care. When they were released from their protective custody status, the shelter reached out to us for safe placement for Igloo's brother because he was under review for his medical concerns. Of course, we also made Igloo a Frosted Face. Sadly, his brother didn't respond to medical treatment and passed away not long after their arrival. Igloo is an incredibly sweet and happy boy who loves to be close to people. He hangs in our lobby during the day and doesn’t react at all to the barking, new people, or new dogs who that come through the door. He is so calm and easygoing! Igloo's rear legs are paralyzed, so we ordered wheels for him. We got him a wheelchair, and he was immediately a pro! As you can see in the video, Igloo loves being on the move! Sweet Igloo went on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we could be able to share with potential adopters what caring for him entails. Here's the scoop from his Fling Dad: "Igloo is an absolute delight. I've never met a dog so chill or one so adaptable to changing circumstances. Igloo is the perfect work-from-home companion. He does not bark or whine or make any noise at home. Igloo would really benefit from someone who has direct access to a grassy area, whether it's a front or back yard, or park. He LOVES being outside whether it's on a balcony or porch or at the park. Igloo is so sweet and polite when meeting other people, and he met A LOT of people in downtown San Diego. He did not growl or bark at anyone and received many pats. He even met a group of 15 young kids who were taking a walk outside during school hours. He let them pet him and showed them how he uses his wheels. Igloo also a perfect companion when you're out for happy hour at a restaurant, he just snoozes in his stroller. The sounds of downtown SD did not scare him at all. Igloo does well with an established routine. We would take him out at 6 am, 11 am, 3/4 pm, and 7/8 pm. For his morning potty, he needs to be brought to a grassy areas as soon as possible to avoid any accidents in the stroller. During the other potty breaks, he was very good about holding it until we got to the park. During our four trips outside a day, we were practicing using his wheels on the sidewalk, in the grass, on wet compact sand, and on dirt paths. Igloo also spent plenty of time in his stroller during our walks and time outside. At first, he did not want to use wheels but by the end, he was leading his own way on sidewalks and in the grass. He would even chase after birds with his wheels on. He does have some difficulty pulling himself from sidewalk onto grass but that will get better with more practice. In an hour walk, we'd spend about 20 minutes on the wheels and 40 minutes in the stroller. Igloo does get tired easily with the wheels so we'd take plenty of breaks and just lay in the grass. We worked with Igloo going potty while his wheels were attached. At first it was difficult, but we incentivized him with lots of praise and treats. By the end of his time with us, he was getting much better at pooping and peeing with the wheels on. We kept a belly band on him overnight. Igloo is a very mellow and chill dog, especially at home. He did not bark a single time. Any family would be lucky to have Igloo!" Adaptable Igloo is back on-site and ready for his forever home! Might it be with you? To meet Igloo, stop by between 10 AM and 3 PM any day of the week. Or, you can schedule an appointment by emailing: placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org.
