Meet Azari – a stunningly handsome, sweet, and chill guy who has waited far too long for his forever home. Azari is 4 years old, neutered, heartworm negative, and ready to go home today! He recently had a four-day sleepover with us to get a much-needed break from shelter life, which has been wearing on him. We saw firsthand just how special he is – and we’re hoping this time away helps lead him to the loving, permanent home he so deserves. His eyes are so soulful & he enjoyed feeling the sun on his face, grass under his paws and hearing the sounds he was soaking up his break from the busy-ness of the shelter. He deserves to find his forever home very soon. Smart & Motivated: Azari knows “sit” and is both praise- and toy-motivated. While he’s a laid-back guy who doesn’t constantly need mental stimulation, he’s eager to please and will thrive with gentle guidance and structure. Dog-Friendly: Azari got along great with our 9-year-old male dog. He’s a respectful playmate who reads body language well and knows when to play and when to chill. If you have a resident dog, we recommend bringing them for a meet-and-greet at the shelter to ensure it’s a good fit. (Please bring proof of up-to-date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines.) Cat-Appropriate: Azari has shown no real interest in my cat – even with a baby gate between them and during a brief, calm nose-to-nose interaction under supervision. While every cat-dog relationship is different, he’s shown respectful behavior and may do well in a home with cats given the right introductions. Car-Approved & Bath-Ready: He rides calmly in the car and handles baths like a pro. He walks well on a leash—he may pull a little at first, but settles into a nice rhythm with time. Low-Energy Lounger: Azari enjoys a game of fetch and chewing on durable toys, but his favorite thing is lounging on a cozy dog bed or cuddled up on the couch. He is house-trained and, while he may do a bit of counter surfing out of curiosity, he’s easily redirected. Crate Time: Azari is crated when we’re not home and overnight. While he does bark in the crate, especially at first, this is something that can improve with time, consistency, and patience in a new home. Like any of us, adjusting to a new routine takes time, and he’s doing his best to figure it all out. This beautiful, sweet spirit is so ready for a home where he can feel safe, loved, and settled. Could that home be yours? To meet Azari, or to find out more, contact his foster at (336) 355-1049!
