Penny was estimated to be 7 yrs old by the shelter staff but based on her youthful looks and her level of energy, her bright sparkling eyes and pearly white teeth, we estimate her to be younger, more accurately around 5 years old. Penny was confiscated from a hoarding situation along with several other small size dogs. She weighs a well rounded 11 lbs. She could lose a pound but is still so cute and elegant with her big twinkling eyes, tiny folded ears and long muscular legs that give her great mobility! She had a dental cleaning done and lost a couple of lower front teeth but this does not affect her good looks. She is a healthy little dog, who loves food and is very alert: she always keeps her bright shiny eyes on her caregiver’s every move. Her favourite occupation is to watch her foster mom pottering around the kitchen, patiently sitting on the floor near her or from her bed. She loves to chew on raw hide bones. Every now and then, she comes to her foster mom for a quick petting and to give her passionate kisses to thank her for the attention she just received, then returns to her bed to keep watching the love of her life. Penny does not give her heart to everybody, she is exclusive and keeps all of her love for her caregiver. She likes to sit on her foster mom’s lap for a short while or near her on the sofa. She is curious and interested in everything her favourite person does, which makes her a great, very present companion. She is a bit wary of men but forgets her fear when they offer a treat! She is very food motivated. While she is shy when first meeting strangers, she quickly warms up with a treat, especially if there is another friendly dog around to lead the way. She likes other dogs and is more confident in their presence. She is submissive to other dogs, a follower not a leader. She patiently waits for her turn to get a treat but she will not share her food bowl or chewing bone with other dogs. She is so funny when she does her welcoming dance when her foster mom returns home or prepare her food bowl! Penny is pee pad trained and well housebroken. She can also be given the run of the house as she is not destructive at all and is well housebroken. She knows to relieve herself on pee pad or outdoors. Penny will alert and bark when someone is at the door. Sudden noises will often triggers a bark. This little gal is a true gem, such a pleasure to have around because she provides steady, real ever present and comforting company to her caregiver without being overly demanding of attention.
