My story

***Currently located in Guerrero, Mexico*** Hi, I’m Tula — and I’ve come a long way. When the kind humans at Surfers for Strays first found me, I was completely shut down. My body was weak, my heart was heavy, and my eyes… well, they told the story of a life filled with pain. I had been wandering the streets of Zihuatanejo, pregnant, starving, and struggling to walk with three broken bones in my front leg and wrist. But even through all that, something inside me whispered, “Don’t give up.” And when the SFS team gently reached out, I couldn’t help but lean in. I was scared, but I felt safe for the first time in what felt like forever. Since then, I’ve been healing — body, mind, and spirit. The wonderful people here have cared for me through months of cast changes, warm beds, belly rubs, and gentle encouragement. I’ve gained weight (a healthy 40 lbs now!), my bones are almost fully healed, and my tail wags more and more each day. I’m around 2.5 years old, and I’ve been fully vetted, vaccinated, and spayed. I’m also fully in love with humans. I’ve gone from quietly lying in the corner to seeking out affection, nuzzling into laps, and looking at my caretakers with eyes full of hope. They say the sadness in my gaze is gone now, replaced with curiosity, trust, and joy — I’m finally discovering what it means to be a dog again. I may still carry some emotional scars from my past, so I’ll need a home that can be patient and understanding as I continue to bloom. But I promise — if you open your heart to me, I will return your love tenfold. I’m gentle, soulful, and so grateful to be alive. I dream of a calm, loving home where I can cuddle, heal fully, and just be with my person or family. If you’re someone who believes in second chances and the magic of resilience, I think we might be meant for each other. Thank you to everyone who helped save my life. I’m ready now for the next chapter — filled with safety, sunshine, snuggles, and love. Will it be with you?
