Bob Randy is a very skittish boy who may be semi-feral. He runs when approached but has never shown signs of aggression—no hissing, scratching, or biting. He's simply frightened and unsure of people at this stage, but likes the companion of other cats. While he currently needs more socialization, volunteer Madeline has been able to pet him, showing he has potential with the right person. With time, patience, and a gentle approach, Bob Randy could slowly learn to trust. He may be best suited as a long-term foster or working cat for a barn or business, but an experienced and understanding adopter could also help bring out the companion hiding beneath his fear.We also recommend following the 7-3-3 Guideline to support a smooth transition. This thoughtful framework offers a realistic timeline and helpful tips for pets who may need extra time and patience to adjust. By providing structure and understanding, you’ll give your new companion the best chance to thrive—and become a beloved part of your family.7 Days to Decompress: When first brought home, your new cat will need a quiet space—like a small room—where he/she can feel safe and observe from a distance. Establish consistent routines, such as feeding, litter box use, and quiet interaction, to help him/her settle in.3 Weeks to Start Adjusting: Over the next few weeks, your cat will begin exploring more, recognizing your presence, and getting comfortable with the household’s rhythm. During this time, gentle interaction and positive reinforcement will help build trust.3 Months to Fully Acclimate: It can take up to three months for adopted pets to feel completely at home, confident, and bonded with their new family. By this time, their personality will shine through, and will likely be showing their affectionate and playful side regularly.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bob Randy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
