My story

Hugh came to ACCT Philly after being found on Westmoreland Street by someone who couldn’t keep him. Described as friendly and cuddly from the moment he arrived, this big-hearted guy has made fast friends with just about everyone he’s met—human and canine alike! This two-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier is a bundle of happy energy who thrives on affection and play. At the shelter, Hugh consistently wowed staff and volunteers with his wiggly, social demeanor. He’s known for leaning in for snuggles, climbing into laps, and giving gentle kisses. Volunteers noted that he’s sweet, curious on leash, and eager to greet everyone with a wagging tail. In playgroups, Hugh proved to be a social butterfly, adapting well to various dogs and often stealing the show with his friendly nature. Hugh even went on a fun day trip where he showed off his car manners, hiking enthusiasm, and love of pup cups. He greets everyone with a friendly tail wag and is always eager to make new friends. Once you get him alone he is all about affection—leaning in for pets, climbing onto laps, and showering his people with kisses. This well-mannered sweetheart takes treats gently, making him an absolute joy to be around. Super playful, such a friendly disposition! 03/02/2025 Per day trip: We had a fun day trip with Hugh today! He hopped right in the car, walked well on our hike, and was overall a joy to take out! He enjoyed a pup cup at the end of our trip. He is super energetic and playful and loved to run on our hike! 03/01/2025 02/28/2025 playgroup videos listed above 02/28/2025 Volunteer notes: Hugh is a snuggly, stocky fellow who just wants some treats and to rub his face all over you. His sweet eyes will melt your heart. He was very curious on leash and eagerly went to the bathroom as soon as we headed outside. Playgroup notes: I took Hugh out for playgroup today. He was easy to leash and walks with only moderate pulling. He’s easy to handle and very friendly with his new human friends. He was a playgroup rockstar! 02/27/2025 Volunteer notes: Playfully jumps, sweet, loves treats, medium to high energy. Behavior Evaluation: KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Hugh was already up on the door when the handler approached. He had soft dilated eyes, ears back and was wagging with a relaxed body. He stayed on the door when the handler opened to leash him but allowed for very easy leashing and exited without issue. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally, said hi to everyone he passed! HANDLING: In the room Hugh was very wiggly and social! He wanted to stop and say hi to every person he passed on the way to the room. He was very wiggly and affectionate, leaning in for pets, climbing on our laps and did not have any handling sensitivities. He was very well mannered in the room with us and gave lots of kisses. He took treats gently when offered as well. PLAY: Engages in play TOYS: Interest but no possession COLOR LEVEL: Green
