My story

Meet Portland! Portland is a playful, energetic pup with an independent streak and a heart full of love! He starts his mornings with zoomies, making every day an adventure. He absolutely adores other dogs—whether it’s playtime at home or meeting new friends on walks, he’s always ready to make a new canine buddy. One of Portland’s funniest quirks? He treats the couch like a trampoline, bouncing around before settling in to observe everything happening around him. He’s also a big fan of head massages and behind-the-ear scratches, and he’ll happily snuggle up once he’s comfortable. While he can be a little timid in new situations, he’s made great progress in building confidence. He’s on a consistent sleep schedule, usually sleeping soundly through the night. Potty training is still a work in progress, but he’s learning quickly and is already picking up basic commands like "sit" and "stay." Portland would thrive in a home with another playful dog but would also do well on his own with an active and loving adopter. If you’re looking for a sweet, adventurous pup who will keep you entertained and shower you with affection (and help clean up any crumbs on the floor!), Portland might be the perfect match! ----- Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Little Dog Rescue. Our dogs come from a variety of sources and backgrounds. They are all in need of adopters that have patience, an understanding of where these dogs have come from, and that there will be an adjustment time when they transition into their forever home. This can include learning basic commands, walking on leash and potty training. Some dogs will pick up on your routine and expectations faster than others. Potty accidents will happen. We find that positive reinforcement, consistency, and routine from the adopter achieves the best results. We are a small, all volunteers team and give 100% of our efforts towards doing right by these pups. We are often juggling many responsibilities at the same time and do our very best to process inquiries and applications in a timely manner. We do prioritize inquiries that have a submitted application on file through the Little Dog Rescue website. We do our best to accurately assign breed designations, however we are unable to guarantee 100% accuracy. Sometimes we only have the dogs appearance to go on. Our adoption fees are thoughtfully considered. The adoption fee is not a purchase price for the dog. It is a fee that is designed to support the overall work of our rescue. Highly desirable dogs and puppies are intentionally listed with a higher adoption fee. This is done to help offset the enormous medical expenses we incur when taking in older pups and special needs medical dogs whose adoption fees do not come close to covering their expenses. In addition, the vast majority of our dogs are brought in from out of state and incur transport fees along with their medical and acquisition costs. We ask that you take all of these things into consideration, and we look forward to finding a great match for your family.
