Before introducing Uno, we want to highlight that May 1st is our region's Big Day of Giving, led by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation. You can kick off your generosity today. Even a small contribution of just $10 at bigdayofgiving.org/shepheroes can make a difference in the lives of abandoned and at-risk shepherds across Northern California. Join us in creating change—together, we can transform lives! One of our notable adopters has created a Basic Barkbox or a SuperChewer BarkBox giveaway. Confirmation of your Big Day of Giving donation sent to @the.dakotagram Instagram account will enter you in the giveaway. Your generous donation on the Big Day of Giving will make a meaningful difference in sweet and handsome Uno's journey through his board-and-train program at Paws n Play. As he faces his next fear period, we want to ensure he has the support and guidance he needs to thrive during this critical stage of his adolescence. Together, we can help him build confidence and overcome challenges, positively impacting his life. Thank you for being there for our beloved pups! Meet Uno, the charming 5- 5-month-old pup ready to find his forever home next month! Although he has a sweet and gentle temperament, allowing him to make friends quickly, including kids and dogs, his deep bark and wagging tail are confusing when he initially approaches people to say hello. Shepherd people realize he's a puppy who needs a little work on greetings since he's also a treat connoisseur, dropping his bravado for treats. Giving kisses and snuggling into legs, wagging his tail like a helicopter propeller after treats, shows us that he didn't have guidance in proper meeting etiquette before he ended up at the shelter. We saw that he hadn't experienced much when he approached new things like parked motorcycles and unknown objects, making sure to make himself big and loud, only to realize that when he sniffed them, they weren't scary. This lovable guy, whose shelter name was Bing, quickly made himself home in his foster family. His favorite things? Toys, soft beds, and cozy cuddles! Uno didn’t waste time settling into his new plush bed, radiating happiness in a warm environment. Since he didn't know his shelter name, his foster family named him Uno after his ears on arrival. And those ears have found their way to be upright so that he can be even more handsome. His favorite toy is a soft frisbee, although he's partial to all kinds of toys. He loves chasing balls and has learned the concept of fetch. Uno loves to hang out in the yard when given the opportunity, taking in the fresh air and the neighborhood sounds. Since he's of the age where he could get into trouble eating the flowers and general mischief, he's supervised in the fenced yard. Despite being the only dog in his foster home, Uno has proven to be a social butterfly with other dogs! He has spent a few nights with a couple of our wonderful volunteers and got along famously with their sets of three dogs. He then had a fantastic time playing with Otte and Murphy (our pups who have now found their forever families) and respectfully interacted with the older resident shepherds. In his foster home, Uno lives with birds and has already won the hearts of the neighborhood kids, who come over to play with him daily. His affectionate nature and playful spirit will make him an ideal companion for a family willing to guide Uno through more socialization and positive experiences. He's almost through losing all these baby teeth in favor of new, pearly white adult teeth. His foster family has even found some of his baby teeth, although most puppies swallow their loose teeth. Uno generally chews on his toys when his teeth are achy and has learned that, although soft and convenient, human hands are not allowed. If you're looking for a sweet friend who loves interacting with older kids and other dogs, Uno may be the perfect match! Meet him and see just how special he is! Uno has settled in and mastered crate training, pottying in his designated area outside, and getting lots of kibble to add weight to his frame. Although he's still a bit thin, Uno's tummy issues have resolved, and he's thriving and growing fast. He finished his antibiotics, which helped him recover from the kennel cough he brought from the crowded municipal shelter. His muzzle wound has also healed completely. With better kibble and lots of exercise since he arrived in our care, his coat is soft and shiny, and he's also had a couple of baths to shed the shelter life behind him and had his nails trimmed. From the puppy who didn't have much stamina at first, Uno can run like the wind now. Uno has also recovered quickly from his neuter surgery to be ready for adoption. He rides nicely in the car, settling in shotgun or with a doggy seat belt in the back seat or tethered in the back of the SUV as well as crated. Please consider adopting Uno only if you have the time and commitment to raise a young shepherd puppy into a well-rounded adult dog. Investing time in training Uno will also be beneficial, as he's a lovely treat-motivated blank slate and ready to learn. Shepherd or similar working/herding dog experience will be necessary to become a forever match for Uno. Have you visited our YouTube channel? We'd love your support by subscribing to the channel and liking and commenting on the videos we share of our current and adopted shepherds. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook, too. We share lots of news and content about our shepherds. As a foster-based rescue, ShepHeroes is always in need of fosters. An overwhelming number of shepherds in our local shelters need our help for a fresh start. Would you be willing to share your home and part of your life to help shepherds find new families? You provide the love, and we'll provide everything else! Saying "yes" today truly saves a life. Complete this https://www.shepheroes.org/foster-form, and we'll be in touch ASAP!
