My story

Dex is settling into foster care and showing just how sweet, playful, and lovable he really is! This handsome pup is obsessed with fetch—he’ll chase a tennis ball as many times as you’re willing to throw it. When he’s not playing, he’s soaking up all the pets and love he can get! Since arriving in foster, Dex has been doing great in the home. He walks well on a leash, sleeps soundly through the night, and has been a perfect gentleman in his crate while his foster fam is away. He’s still working on potty training but is learning quickly. Dex is a goofy, affectionate boy who just wants to be close to his people and have fun! He had a couple accidents last night before bed, luckily we had put the pads down. He walked well on the leash both last night and this morning. I slept in his room with him and he settled nicely and slept through the night by my side. No accidents overnight. He went well into his crate this morning and we have a ring camera on him I check every hour and he is just hanging out. He is a sweet, goofy boy! 03/18/2025 volunteer notes: I approached Dex’s kennel in iso where he sat there patiently waiting for me to open the crate door. Once my leash was over dex’s head he happily got out of the crate door and immediately jumped on me. Dex is easily redirected with some treats. Outside Dex did grab my leash and begin to leash bite however, if you have a toy with you he will grab the toy instead of the leash. He has a lot of puppy mannerisms and he would benefit from some type of training as he can get jumpy and mouthy at times. Dex is very treat motivated and will do just about anything for a treat. He knows sit and sits very nicely when asked. He takes treats extremely nice from your hand. He likes rope toys and squeaky toys, which we played with a lot in the yard to get some of the much needed energy out of him. He is a cuddler and will hop in your lap for some pets and cuddles and even some belly rubs. We traded some treats for his toy which he did well with! He’s such a sweet, loving boy. 03/11/2025 day trip notes: yesterday I took Dex on a day trip to the Schuylkill River Trail. He was very sweet and didn't seem too stressed in the car. When we first got there, he seemed restless and was leash biting and jumping. I distracted him by holding up a treat and telling him to sit, and he listened. Once we started walking, he was fine. He was really good on the leash and did not pull too much. He was mostly interested in sniffing around and intermittently turning back to greet me, and he did not react much to other dogs or people going by. Twice, when someone running down the trail caught him by surprise, he got scared and pulled me away to hide, but he recovered quickly with some pets. At one point, his harness slipped off when he jumped down a steep hill, but he stayed right with me as I got down to put it back on him and help him back up the hill. I was very impressed by his response to this potentially scary incident! We took some breaks to sit and he really snuggled up to me and gave me lots of kisses. He was also very mouthy but gentle, and seemed to have a lot of puppy energy. Dex was such a treat to have yesterday! 03/10/2025 Volunteer notes: Dog test with Stormy- Dex was friendly, affiliative, social and eager to meet. His tail was high and wagging loosely, with ears to the side and he was bouncing back and forth offering some play bows, with soft eyes and a gentle pant. 03/08/2025 volunteer notes: Dex looked ready to get outside in his kennel and was super easy to leash. We bounded outside and made our way to the big yard where Dex was able to zoom around and find and sniff all the toys. He picked the spider as his favorite and was great to play fetch with, eagerly waiting each time for it to be thrown again. Dex also looked like he wanted to play with other dogs through the fence, giving play bows and running along the fence with them. After a few more turns of fetch, he decided it was time to cuddle and climbed up onto the bench to snuggle into a lap and allow all over pets while enjoying the sun. Dex is a great dog who is ready to play, love, and be loved by his forever family. Volunteer behavior eval 3/7: Kennel presentation : dex was at the front of his kennel with neutral eyes, I put the leash up to his kennel where he sniffed it and gave mid tail wags. I then opened the kennel and lassoed him where he sat patiently waiting. Handling: once leashed Dex walked right out of his kennel with minimal pulling. He did grab his leash for a second but once we started walking he let go of the leash. In the yard dell took treats very nicely from my hand. He showed that he knows sit. He allowed all handling and even solicited pets. He will jump up on you for some pets and can be redirected with treats Play: interested in play Toys: interested and took possession of toys. Color: Gold 03/07/2025 volunteer notes: This beautiful dog loves tennis balls! Loves to play fetch and loves to be pet! Sweet and lovable 03/07/2025 staff notes: Super sweet puppy energy, seemed very interested in playing with other dogs. Very loose and allowed all handling.
