Meet Lucy – your loyal little shadow with a big heart and a brave spirit! Lucy is a 3-year-old terrier/boxer mix weighing in at about 30 pounds. She's smart, spunky, and full of personality. Since being rescued, she’s stayed with a few different foster homes as we worked to figure out exactly what makes her feel happiest and safest. And guess what? We finally cracked the code! Lucy is a homebody who thrives in a calm, structured environment with a yard to call her own. Apartment living just isn’t her thing—she takes her role as neighborhood watch a bit too seriously and gets stressed by all the hallway traffic. But give her a fenced yard, a sunny spot to nap, and a daily game of fetch or tug-of-war, and she’s in her element. She is potty trained, crate trained, and loves playing with other dogs, but she is not the biggest fan of cats. Lucy hasn’t met many children, but due to her protective nature, she'd do best in a home with adults or older kids who understand how to give her space when she needs it. One of Lucy’s strongest traits is her deep love for her people. Once she bonds with you, she’s all in—loyal, cuddly, and always by your side. But that love also makes her a bit wary of strangers in her home, especially men. Introductions go best when they’re slow, calm, and come with a handful of tasty treats. With patience, Lucy opens up and lets her sweet, silly side shine. Lucy is currently working on her leash manners and reactivity, and she’s already come a long way with help from positive reinforcement training. She gets a little nervous around loud trucks or unfamiliar sights on walks, but a “find it” game with treats helps her feel more secure. She’s still working on recall, so she’ll need to stay on-leash unless she’s in a secure area. Lucy’s ideal home is one that understands her need for both structure and play, where she can be the brave little guard dog she was born to be—without the stress of high-traffic living. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big personality and a heart full of love, Lucy just might be your girl!
