Dog Name: Nessie Breed: Mix Sex: Female Age: 2 Weight: 32 pounds Medical Needs: None Housebroken: Yes, not one accident in the house. Crate trained: Yes. Nessie’s crate is her safe space. She will initially spend most of her time in there, until she becomes more comfortable with her new surroundings. She sleeps all night without a peep, no matter how long she’s in there. Good in the car: Yes, but as a precaution, a seatbelt clip should be used. Good on a leash: Yes, but she is extremely skittish of all things new, so caution must be taken initially. She will go for short walks, and seems to really enjoy herself, but bolts for home as soon as she becomes uncomfortable with her surroundings (loud vehicles, unfamiliar people). If you’re looking for an exercise partner for walking/hiking, Nessie is not your girl (at least not yet). Energy level: Mostly low, with occasional zoomies. Need a fenced in yard: No, but since Nessie initially will be very skittish on leash, it would be great for her to have a fenced in yard to get some zoomies out or lounge in the sun (she does enjoy doing both, now that she’s comfortable in her foster home). Dog Friendly: Yes. She has lived her whole young life with other dogs. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Yes. Nessie is much more confident with another dog. It may initially take another dog to help coax her out of her crate and show her the lay of the land. Cat Friendly? Unknown Kid Friendly: Unknown If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Definitely no young children, older teens would be best. Nessie is still very fearful of new people, quick movements and loud noises. A quiet household would be best for her, especially until she gets adjusted. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Nessie’s beginning was not a happy one, but she is ready for her happily ever after. This pint sized cutie pie was born in a shelter in Georgia, where she lived her whole life, along with her sister. In October of last year she went into foster care in GA and made her way to DE in mid January. Initially she stayed in her crate all day, only coming out when extracted and carried outside to potty. After a week and a half she began to trust and with the help of her four legged foster brother, started walking outside and back in on her own. Nessie is super sweet and her spunky personality is slowly coming out. She enjoys chewing on bones, occasionally playing with toys and has joined her foster brother watching over the house from the safety of the front door. She is making progress every day and it’s a joy to see her coming out of her shell. This adorable little girl will need lots of patience in her new home, but it will be worth it. Once she is settled, she will give lots of kisses and tail wags!
