** $20 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** Chickie ACCT-A-214923 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Chickie must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER or ADOPTER by FRIDAY, April 4th at 10AM. Should Chickie’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal. Chickie is an approximately 2 year old female mixed breed dog that came into the shelter when her owner was evicted and had to give up her and 9 other dogs. All the dogs were very scared upon intake, and none of them wanted to exit their kennels, go for walks, or meet new people or dogs. Now, Chickie has come out of her shell more and has made several staff and volunteer friends at the shelter. This is what her friends had to say about her: Per volunteer 3/23: Chickie is a sensitive soul who needs a patient and loving home to help her come out of her shell. She’s very nervous in new situations and needs time to warm up, but she is incredibly sweet and tolerant. Chickie is very tolerant of handling, even when nervous, and with patience, she starts to show glimpses of trust. She will need a home that understands her fears and gives her time to adjust. A peaceful environment would be ideal. If you’re looking for a sweet dog who just needs a little extra care and reassurance, Chickie is ready to find her safe place in your heart. Per staff on 3/19: Chickie went on a day trip here is how she did: Kennel- Easy to leash and come out of a kennel, very nervous but with some motivation she walked fine to the office. I did not have to pick her up or tug on her leash I just let her walk at her own pace. Dressing: She was super nervous getting into a harness but allowed all handling. She was very sweet and liked the pets but not interested in treats. I was able to get her into the harness with no issues or concerns. Trip to the front: I walked her to the adoption lobby and she allowed both day trip handlers to pet her with no issues. As soon as she saw the outside through the window she perked up. Returning to kennel: When I took her back from the day trip people they said she did great. She waited for the girls to leave and then began to walk again. She walked very nicely in kennels no pulling at all. She saw dogs passing and did not care for them and gave one of the dogs some sniffs. She was hopped right in her kennel and her bed and was already snoring by the time I got the harness off. Overall she is very shy and a slow approach will be best for her. However she is very sweet, allows all handling and cute! I can definitely see her confidence being able to build once out of the shelter. Per day trip 3/13: She was very nervous. She wouldn’t jump in the car we had to pick her up. She was nervous in the car at first she wouldn’t take any treats and she was shaking. When we got on the walk her tail was tucked most of the time and she would freeze a few times. She didn’t use the bathroom at all. We got her chicken nuggets she wouldn’t eat them or drink any water. When we got back in the car she went right to sleep and was much more relaxed so we just let her sleep for about 20 mins before bringing her back! Jumped out of the car very easily. Very sweet girl she let us pet her, she was really starting to warm up to the pets she is just pretty shut down ): I hope she can find a rescue or foster and heal in a quiet home! Per staff 3/17: Chickie Known history: owner surrender Kennel presentation: Chickie was laying on her bed in her kennel when I approached. AS soon as I opened the door she began to shake and tremble on her bed. I tried to apply some leash pressure and also give her some fresh pet but she did not want to come out of her kennel. She was neutral the whole time in her kennel and never once showed any aggression just scared. After about 30 minutes of sitting she eventually got up with some leash pressure Leash: minimal pulling Handling: in the yard Chickie allowed all handling, although uncomfortable she was very tolerant. She had neutral eyes and a neutral body language. She sniffed around a lot but at times would come over and stand next to me or in front of me. Originally when she first came out she had her tail tucked but eventually did untick her tail. She seems to be somewhat housebroken and may need a refresh. She did not take any treats from me. Outside she still continued to shake when she felt uncomfortable. Toys: no interest Play: no interest Color: experienced blues Per volunteer 3/15: Playgroup 3/15: Fearful and steerable at the gate. Greeted dogs appropriately. Overall avoidant of other dogs. Gave appropriate corrections when asking for space. Gentle and dainty play style. Per staff 3/15: approaching the kennel she was on the back side sitting, ears back, averting her gaze. I opened the door and showed her the leash and she began trembling. I offered a treat but she did not get up so I went to the back side to leash her. She stood up and came to the leash and walked on a loose leash to the eval room. In the room she was walking around, sniffing. I sat on the floor and she sat behind me and allowed me to pet her on her ears, back and chest. Her tail would be down not wagging, or tucked, moving in between both of those. ears back, wide eyes unless I was petting, then her eyes would soften. She did a few lip licks when I stopped petting, and also when I would attempt to give her direct eye contact. She avoided direct eye contact the whole time. When trying to leave the eval room she sat and wouldn't move but did move with some mild leash pressure. I walked her outside and she began to pull more and went towards the fence and sat near the fence. When trying to come back inside she also stopped and refused but with some gentle leash pressure she finally did walk. She would not eat treats. She walked on a loose leash back to her kennel and was easy to remove the leash in kennel.
