My story

What my friends at ACC say about me:Poker is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He is apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, he tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people, we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.A volunteer writes: Having been with us for over two months, Poker's still trying to find his way. He's determined though and wants to do his best, so he waits for a chance even though he doesn't always know what to do when it comes his way. Passing the day all curled up in his little bed is progress for Poker because he used to be curled up in his den. He's comparatively out and about now, but still a quiet kitty who politely asks others to make the first move. This isn't entirely unusual, especially for someone like Poker who came to us from a home with many other cats, but it does bring a bit of a challenge when it comes to making new friends. Though Poker may not have had as many opportunities to meet new people as other cats have had, he's committed to learning and trusting more, which is why he's started to very sweetly welcome pets. Shelter life can be a lot on our gentle hearted friends, but we know there's a family out there for Poker and hope you will come in and meet him soon.
