My story

What my friends at ACC say about me:Poker is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He is apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, he tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people, we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.A volunteer writes: Usually when I walk by Poker's condo, he's trying to pass the day from the comfort of his den. It's hardly unusual for a quiet kitty to take a few days worth of deep breaths before joining us at the front of their condo. But then, on one very quiet evening, when most of the kitties were all tucked in, my heart soared to see Poker loafing just outside of his den. Believing this to be my chance, I grabbed a handful of treats and sat by his condo door. As I opened it very slowly, Poker watched me with wide eyes and when I gently offered my hand, he leaped up to his perch. I tried again and Poker gave a quick glance in my direction before quietly slipping back into his den when I blinked. It's clear that trying to make sense of things leaves Poker floundering a bit. He waits for a chance but doesn't really know what to do when it comes his way. Poker came to us from a home with many other cats and we know his forever home is out there, so we hope you'll come in and meet him soon.
