Location: Big Lake, MN Kona, lovingly nicknamed Moose, is a one-year-old Shepherd mix with a heart as big as his paws. After a rough start in life—being tied to a fence and attacked by other dogs—this sweet boy is learning what it means to be safe, loved, and part of a family. Moose is the definition of loyal. He’s a Velcro pup through and through, always wanting to be by his person’s side. He does well in his kennel at night but isn’t a fan of being left alone during the day, so he’d thrive in a home where someone is around often or can gradually help him feel secure when apart. He’s fully potty trained and will bark to let you know when he needs to go outside. He loves the outdoors, enjoys long walks and would be the ideal hiking partner! He’s always up for a game of fetch (just don’t expect him to remember how big he is—he might try to curl up on your lap!). Moose is playful, sometimes silly—he’ll throw toys in the air for himself and zoom around the house—and also has a calm, mellow side once he’s had his playtime. Because of his past, Moose is selective with other dogs and would do best as the only pet in the home. He barks at dogs he sees outside and cannot be placed in a home with cats due to his strong prey drive. He’s great with kids but may accidentally bump into smaller ones during playtime, simply because he hasn’t quite grasped how large he is yet. Moose will need a secure, fenced-in yard or always be leashed when outside—he’s a bit of a flight risk and loves to chase rabbits and birds. He may require ongoing medication for skin allergies, so his future family should be prepared for that commitment. Ideal adopters will be patient, preferably experienced with the shepherd breed and willing to continue building up his trust and confidence. In return, Moose will give you his whole heart, plenty of goofy antics, and the kind of loyalty that only a dog like him can offer. --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org). Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, heartworm test (dogs), FIV/FeLV test (cats), dewormed, and microchip implant (including registration). Rescue Network is strictly foster based which means all adoptable animals are in a home and there cannot be a meet until an application is submitted and approved. We have no way of knowing the breeds in the animals. All breeds listed are best guess.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kona, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
