My story

All neglect stories are heartbreaking, but it really pulls on your heartstrings when they are tiny little puppies.  Zeek and Sofia have 2 separate origin stories but a similar background.  The important thing is that they have found each other and are now in a temporary foster home with a caring foster mom who is giving them lots of love and keeping them safe. Zeek (the darker, furry one in the pictures) was found as a stray - abandoned and left to survive on his own.  He was taken to a shelter and was going to be euthanized due to lack of space.  He was only 2 or so months old at the time.   This poor little guy was covered in fleas.  They were so bad that his little body had bald patches in multiple places.  Luckily one of our rescue partners pulled him out and rushed him to the vet where he was treated for anemia (due to the fleas).  His ear also has bite marks, and the theory is that it may have been rat bites.  Needless to say, poor Zeek has had a very rough start to life.  Sofia's (red/white puppy in the pictures) story is pretty much the same. She was found alone walking on the highway.   She was an incredibly tiny baby, just 2 pounds (if that).  It's hard to imagine her surviving even one day in that state.  She was anemic, full of flees, and very dehydrated.   Sofia arrived one month after Zeek to the same foster home.  Needless to say, they have formed an adorable bond with one another.  The moment Sofia arrived, Zeek took it upon himself to be her protector.  He's always looking out for her and whenever possible is always at her side.  Zeek loves to play with Sofia (even though there are other dogs in the foster home), he stays next to her when she sleeps, and basically acts like her older brother and BFF. Both Zeek and Sofia are now fully healed and are happy, healthy and full of puppy energy and enthusiasm.  We call them the odd couple, and we'd love to keep them together. Zeek: Male, estimated to be about 6 months old, and 16 lbs. We don't know his mix.  He's a very smart boy.  He's already potty trained, and he knows to go sit by the door to go outside.  He had no accidents in his foster home. He's crate trained (and sleeps through the night), and comes when he's called.  He loves meeting new friends (both people and other dogs) and he loves to play...and if there's nobody around to play with, he will amuse himself by playing catch with his toys - he'll throw them up in the air. Personality: smart, friendly, playful, affectionate Good with: people of all ages (including kids), dogs and cats. Training: housebroken, crate trained, comes when called, knows "sit" and "treat" Estimated date of birth: 12/19/2024 Weight: 16 pounds Medical: Vetted, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped Location: Currently located with a foster in Texas, but if adopted, will come to the NJ area on our next transport. Sofia: Female, estimated to be 2 months old, and 4 lbs.  She is also a mixed breed.  She’s playful, very curious, likes to see what is going on.  She is good with other dogs and cats (she will approach the cat carefully).   She plays rough with Zeek and isn't intimidated by him.  She doesn't like to be left alone right now.  If everyone leaves the room at once she cries. Personality: smart, friendly, playful, affectionate Good with: people of all ages (including kids), dogs and cats. Training: crate trained, uses pee pads and working on potty training Estimated date of birth: 3/18/25 Weight: 4 pounds Medical: Vetted, receiving puppy vaccinations, microchipped Location: Currently located with a foster in Texas, but if adopted, will come to the NJ area on our next transport. &#226&#128&#139For more videos of Zeek and Sofia, check out their YouTube playlist:  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLmB5-2QLmiJPHt6s7lM1xvEtICdptS-7m To apply to adopt: https://form.jotform.com/210286667669167 We always need fosters, please join us!  https://form.jotform.com/210257395409155 100% of all money received from adoption fees and donations goes directly back to support saving other dogs and cats in need.  FFLAR is a 501c(3) non-profit.   Please consider donating.  We appreciate your support!
