My story

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information.Salamander is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is an under socialized adult cat, is not thriving in the care center, and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust/decompress, and who have experience with helping a fearful/under socialized adult cat adjust to strangers. What my friends at ACC say about me:I have lived with cats in my previous home.Salamander tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.A volunteer writes: Salamander was assigned a crinkle ball to take care of when she came into the Care Center and she's been doing a truly outstanding job. Really just remarkable. I don't know who she reports to, but can vouch that the crinkle ball is never more than an inch away from Salamander's perfect little belly. In fact, each time I walk by, Salamander is stretched against the wall while her charge shimmers brightly in a well loved happiness. I wish I could say the same for Salamander, though of course we love her, she's decidedly less happy than her crinkle ball. She's not sure about shelter life, having come from a house with many other cats. She's equally unsure about pets, hissing and fleeing to her little perch when we get too close, but something she really enjoys are bubble shows! Coming to the front to watch and patiently waiting for the next show to start when it ends, Salamander is hoping to find a forever home where her and her crinkle ball will be welcomed exactly as they are. Primary Color: Brown Tabby Weight: 7 Age: 1yrs 1mths 3wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Salamander, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
