My story

We are so excited to finally be able to open Miss Ellie up for adoption! We have had her for a bit but needed to get to the bottom of some of her medical issues before we could make her available. Here are a few notes from her Foster: ·         Absolutely loves car rides!  ·         Does not enjoy stuffed toys at all. I’ve tried giving them to her and she ignores them. But she loves chew sticks (non-rawhide of course!) I buy her esophagus sticks from the pet store and she lives for those.  ·         Loves her tiny Kong. I add a little bit of sugar-free peanut butter and freeze it.  ·         Gets along great with other dogs, including our 70 lb pittie mix. However, she can become territorial so all treats and feedings happen in a separate room.  She does have some issues with our 6 lb chi but he’s also kind of a jerk so understandable. LOL. She growls at him if he goes near her things (leash, harness, anything that she considers HERS.)  ·         She loves to burrow in soft blankets, especially if they’re right out of the dryer.  ·         Is potty trained! Has had a couple of accidents over the last few months but will let you know when she wants to go out.   ·         Loves walks and is great on a leash. (I use a harness to keep pressure off of her neck)  ·          Very low-maintenance. Loves to cuddle but is not all up in your face about it.  ·         I do let her sleep in the bed with us. However, this may not be ideal for a light sleeper as she does cough and hack in the middle of the night at times.  ·         Is very good about taking her meds (Enalapril, Lasik, and Vetmedin twice a day – check). I put them in a pill pocket and she scarfs them right up. Also good about taking her liquid meds.  ·         VERY VERY food driven. She is always hungry.  ·         She’s had a couple of encounters with small children and was great with them.  ·         Extremely sociable and loves most people. She has growled at a couple of my coworkers but they were in my office and she was not feeling their energy for some reason. But when we are in neutral territory, she is very sweet to anyone who approaches her. When we pulled Ellie she had a large mammary mass that we were waiting to remove and have biopsied as she does also have kidney disease and heart disease and is on meds for both. We were able to have the mass removed first part of March and got the results back and the margins are all clear around the removed mass so yay!!! Great news! She is considered good now with her new family when adopted needing to keep a good eye on her for any future growth but is ready to find her forever home!  March 24, 2025, 2:28 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ellie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
