My story

Meet Umber!Umber is a 7-8 week old Chihuahua/toy poodle/pug (per Mom`s DNA) mixed pup and one of his foster parents favorite pups because he is the first to learn something new, loves attention, and has a perky character that says “Umber is in the room”! He is a little more independent than the other pups in the litter, was 3 times the size of the smallest girl pup, and thrives with one on one time. He likes toys, is teething like all 7-8 week old pups, and is a type A personality, who thinks he is the leader and decision maker at times. He responds well to his fosters since birth, who have realized how to calm him when he gets a little too rowdy with the smaller ones. He is very teachable and loves to run and jump like a rabbit on various surfaces. He is an explorer at times in a large backyard and doesn’t need to be tended to all the time. He’s a joy to watch as he meets a leaf blowing by, finds a toy with a squeaker, and is brave to jump off small heights, rolling as he lands.Umber can get hyper focused on something to the point of biting too hard at times, and needs an older dog who will gently teach him manners. When he learns, he does much better next time. He loves to follow and interact with his foster`s 14 lb Shih Tzu and 70 lb Aussie/staffy nanny dog. He tries to bite their legs and a simple growl or bump with their paw stops this behavior. If he is in a home with another dog, it would be best if the other dog was an older dog who could be a mentor and role model, and who is slower and patient with puppies. He needs one who can give corrections in an appropriate way. This can be a smaller dog like a larger Shih Tzu or larger dog conscious of a puppy desiring attention. Umber still needs to learn to walk on a leash and a patient adopter who can complete the training that a puppy needs. To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. It doesn`t obligate you, but it is the first step. We don`t get to all of the inquires but respond to all applications. Thank you for choosing to rescue!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Umber, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
