My story

Meet Icarus – a playful, affectionate pup with a heart of gold! Icarus is about 1.5 years old and weighs 55 pounds. He’s a young, energetic dog who’s full of personality and ready to find a forever home that can keep up with his playful spirit and give him the love he craves. He walks well on a leash, though he might pull a bit when he sees people or other dogs—he just wants to say hello! With a little fine-tuning and consistency, he'll be a fantastic walking buddy. He’s very treat motivated, takes snacks gently from a flat palm, and can even catch them mid-air. He already knows sit and paw, and with his eagerness to learn, he’s sure to pick up even more commands quickly. Icarus is full of energy and loves to play, so regular exercise and mental stimulation will be key to keeping him happy and healthy. He’s a bit unsure about getting into the car and might need some encouragement, but once he’s in, he rides calmly. What really sets Icarus apart is his affectionate nature—he absolutely melts into you for pets and loves being close to his people. He does well in low-traffic public areas but may feel overwhelmed in busier environments, so a more relaxed home or quieter neighborhood would be a great fit. If you're looking for a smart, sweet, and playful companion, Icarus might just be the one for you! As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
