My story

Prissy has been through A LOT. Her “family” got her at a bodega as a kitten but quickly gave her to a family member who didn’t want her. They viewed her as an inconvenience and did the absolute minimum to care for her. She never went to the vet. She had inconsistent food and water. When her “caretaker” got older, the family decided it was time for Prissy to go. They were ready to put her outside (she’d never been outside in her life). Someone got in touch with us and we rushed over and got her.    She’s supposedly 9-11 years old. We think she’s younger than that, but she’s not a baby. She’s spent her life unwanted. When she came to us, she was (rightfully) mad at the world. We had to keep her in a crate to try to get her settled down, and she hissed and swatted and lunged at us. But we saw glimmers of the real Prissy: she’d roll over on her back and show us her belly. She started letting us pet her a little.  Finally, we had some cats move out and were able to move her into her own room.    Prissy was all over the map—she loved to play and accepted pets while eating but she was still swatting at us. Finally, she got into a scuffle with one of our resident cats and had a cut on her ear. We had taken her to the vet twice before but only for routine purposes. This time, she needed medical attention for her boo-boo and, for the first time in her life, someone took care of her. We got home from the vet and Prissy finally understood how much we love her. She climbed into her foster mom’s lap.    Ever since then, Prissy has finally blossomed into the little girl we knew she was inside. She climbs on top of you in bed. She jumps into your lap. She head butts. She’s still getting used to understanding love—she gets overstimulated easily and will still forget herself and try to swat or bite in the excitement of the moment, so she shouldn’t go to a home with small children. She also does not get along with other animals—no cat or dog friends for Prissy!    Prissy is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV.  If you’re interested in this special little girl, please fill out an application at www.brooklynanimalaction.org/adoption-forms and designate Jennie AnneS as the rescuer.  Thank you for your interest in a rescued kitty! All adoption fees and donations go to saving the next sweetie.     April 7, 2025, 2:16 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Prissy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
