Clove is a very lucky gal! She has devoted volunteer advocates who have helped her to feel brave and comfortable in the shelter! At less than a year old, she is still a puppy who has demonstrated amazing resilience and capacity for love and learning. Here’s what her volunteer friends have shared about her journey:“Clove is now 8 months old and has greatly improved her socialization skills with humans and has developed more confidence and trust in the month I have been working with her. Once leashed up, she comes right out of her kennel and walks outside the gate into the parking lot. She is a slow walker and some of that is due to her love of sniffing new smells. She has been to the park twice with her brother and she seemed happy, enjoying the views, other dogs and walkers near us, and even accepting prolonged pets. Once so scared that she would continually shake, now she lies down in the grass and looks content. She would probably do best a home with another dog. She is also very sweet and gentle.”“Once scared and avoidant, now when Clove sees me walking towards her kennel she comes to the front of the kennel as if to see what is going on. When I`m ready to take her out, she comes to the front and waits patiently for me to leash her up, which is super easy to do. On our walk past the barking dogs she just ignores them as she doesn’t want to be bothered with that. I feel she enjoys getting out of her kennel for a few minutes to see the outside world. Once outside our walk is easy she does pretty well. When we come across other dogs, she usually stops and watches them briefly then continues on her walk. When we stop for a break, she is willing to take treats from my hand and allows (and seems to like) pets on the top of her head. She even has bursts of spirited energy. Oh how I wish I could let her off her leash at those times and let her be free! She`s young and was under-socialized, but has come a long way toward being a great dog.” Clove spent a week in a foster home, where she did very well with the other dogs in the home. She’ll make a great addition to a calm family and will benefit from a quiet environment. If you have what it takes to help Clove be the best girl she can be, come on down to PACC and meet her!
