My story

JINXIE: Jinxie has the potential to be a sweet, gentle companion with a very cat-savvy adopter who is willing to put in the extra effort to help them come out of their shell. She is easily stressed or overwhelmed during transitions, and is looking for an adopter who is willing to give her as much time as she needs to settle in - it could be a couple of days, weeks, or longer. Her success will be dependent on how well adopters are able to read and appropriately respond to her body language. We recommend setting her up in her own space to start (an extra bedroom or bathroom, for example). Choose a space that people or animals do not have access to unless you are going in to clean or feed. She should be left alone initially as she adjusts. Her space should include plenty of hiding places, ideally with access to vertical surfaces as well like a cat tree or a cat-proofed shelf, and easy access to a litter box, food, and water. Never approach her or try to pet or pick her up when she is hiding or showing fearful body language like curling up into a tight, tense ball, flattening their ears backward or to the sides, hissing, growling, swatting, etc. Ideally, with enough time to herself, she will begin to relax and move around more freely while youre visiting her room. Gradually give her more access to the home only when she is confidently moving about her environment and remains confident with relaxed body language when you go in to spend time with her. Meeting new people can be very overwhelming for Jinxie. It is possible she may only ever be comfortable within her small bubble. Adopters should be comfortable with a cat who may not ever want to expand their social circle. If you do have people over, be sure to give Lucie the option to stay in a different space, like in another room behind a door, under the bed, somewhere up high, etc.. She should never be forced to interact with new people if their body language or behavior indicates that they are afraid. She may be conflicted about close handling/petting, especially as she is settling in. Think of her as a pet herself on you kind of cat until she is more comfortable, meaning she should always be allowed to initiate an interaction with you vs. you going up to pet them. If you think Jinxie could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevin`s Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday - Sunday from 12:00

If you have any questions or would like to adopt JINXIE, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
