My story

Maddie - 3 years, 24lbs, Terrier Mix, Spayed  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Our Team Says: "Maddie would definitely do best in a quieter environment - Brooklyn, Queens, or the suburbs. She is currently in BK - and LOVING her life as a BK girl." Thier Foster Parent Says: "Maddie is a total dreamboat, turnkey girl. She is fully housebroken, walks amazing on a leash, doesn't bark and loves everyone. She is an absolute doll and loves snuggling on the couch or bed next to you anytime she can. She is very chill in the house but does need a few walks (about 20 minutes) a day to go to the bathroom and relieve some energy. When left home alone, she’s a perfect angel. Maddie has one vice though: she’s a hoarder of stuffed animals. You’ll find her collecting her "babies" on the couch but otherwise your shoes, furniture, and personal belongings are completely safe. Maddie has been living with a small senior pup who she respects that he does not want to play, ever. She understands boundaries and doesn't even retaliate to dogs who bark at her on the street, she will just run peace out the other way. I imagine she would be a great companion to any other dogs or cats given her gentle demeanor.Maddie is SO SMART and within a couple weeks has learned “come” and “no” and “nice” (which we use on the occasion her walk gets too exciting). She is super quiet, but a great communicator who will give you a little whimper to let you know she needs water or to go outside. Maddie was a bit skittish in the city but she’s settling into Brooklyn life like she was born for it. She’s been to restaurants and patios, where she sits politely and doles out sweet little hand kisses to anyone who pets her hello. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance, high-sweetness pup who will fill your days with snuggles, Maddie is the one for you!" Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Cuddle Bug Level High -- Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the time  - She definitely needs to be in a home where she is allowed on a couch as that in her mind is her dog bed. Potty TrainedYes -- Few or no accidents  Comfy with strangers? Yep -- Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.  Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision) Yes for all ages -- very gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy  Social with Other Dogs? Yes -- Good with all other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines. Has been getting along great with my 14 year old Brussels Griffon. Understands boundaries that he has no interest in playing with her.  Also meets dogs on the street with no issues. When dogs bark at her she always runs away vs retaliating.  Respectful of Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.) Yes -- Seems to get along with other animals, either tries to play with them or is mostly uninterested  Mouthy Behavior? Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff -- only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones. She looooves stuffed animal toys. So as long as anything that might be mistaken for one (i.e. a crocheted hat lol), she doesn't chew on anything.  Leash Manners? Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction.  Okay in the city? Sort of -- Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well and probably just needs more time to adjust. When I picked her up in the East Village she was very skittish but loves living in East Williamsburg. I think it's the right mix of mostly quiet with some noise. She does well when she isn't constantly bombarded with sounds of the city. Jumping on People to Say Hi? Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction. When I pick up my dog she will jump a few times because she wants to be picked up next. She understands boundaries and when I tell her "no" (trying to keep commands simple) she knows not to jump anymore.  Separation Anxiety? Low – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or do anything shitty when you leave the apartment or house. I've had no problems leaving her at home for up to 4-5 hours at a time though alone and/or with my pup. Crate training? N/A Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Puerto Rico or Southern California. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
