Meet Valerie, the sweetest and most gentle dog you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting! Valerie has a heart of gold, and although she may take a little time to warm up to new people, once she does, her true loving nature shines through. At first, she can be a little shy or reserved, but don't let that fool you—she's just taking her time to assess the situation and ensure she feels safe and comfortable. Once Valerie feels like she can trust you, she’s all in. She’s an eager friend, always ready to share affection, enjoy quiet moments, or happily wag her tail when she’s excited. Her soft and gentle demeanor makes her a fantastic companion, and her desire to connect with those around her is clear. While she may not rush into new friendships, Valerie's bond with those she trusts is deep and filled with loyalty. Valerie’s love for snuggling, her calm nature, and her kind heart make her the perfect dog for someone who understands that sometimes the best friendships take time to build. If you're patient and willing to give her a little space to adjust, Valerie will reward you with an abundance of love, gentle companionship, and a forever bond that’s worth the wait. When I arrived at Anderson Animal Shelter from their partner shelter in Oklahoma, I tested positive for Heartworm. The staff believes that the best place for Heartworm positive dogs like me to be while going through treatments and recovering is with a loving and forever family like yours. If you choose to adopt me, the clinic staff will be with you every step of the way, answering questions and offering support. The process from detection to the final treatment is generally three months and involves some simple at-home steps to keep me safe while I recover. The last step in the process is a follow-up test six months after my treatment begins. The Heartworm treatment process is highly successful and the staff anticipates that I will fully recover! Yeah! And you should know that Heartworm can only be transmitted from animal to animal by mosquitoes. My adoption comes with some extra benefits at the time of adoption! Valerie is an All-Star dog, and her adoption appointment includes a discussion with the training team, as well as a few enrichment goodies to help get you both off to a good start. To learn more about Valerie or to schedule an appointment to meet her, please email info@ahconnects.org (including your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to assist you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Valerie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
