Jake from State Farm has been with us since April, and the shelter environment is wearing him down. He has begun spinning in his kennel and hitting his head — clear signs of kennel decline. While he can be reactive when having his leash removed, this is usually manageable with patience and positive reinforcement using treats. Outside of the kennel, Jake is much less stressed and shows his true personality. The Challenges (Honest Truth): -Showing kennel decline, spinning in his run and hitting his head. -Reactive to leash removal, requires patience and treats to manage. -Sensitive about things around his neck — an adult-only home is preferred. -Nervous and stressed in the shelter environment. Why He’s Worth It: -Has done well with other dogs in playgroup. -Significantly calmer and more relaxed when one-on-one or outside the shelter. -Responds well to positive reinforcement and reward-based handling. -With the right environment, he transforms into a different, happier dog. Jake from State Farm isn’t meant to spend his days in a kennel — it’s breaking him down. What he needs is a patient, understanding person who can give him the consistency, calm, and positive reinforcement that bring out his best self. Out of the shelter, Jake is a whole new dog waiting for someone to give him the chance to shine.
