Maverick

My story

Maverick was surrendered to the shelter when his owners were moving, and he could not go with them. He is 4 years old and is a big boy at 80 pounds. He is a typical happy go lucky lab that seems to love everyone that he meets! Maverick arrived with a flare up of demodectic mange which is a mite that lives in the hair follicles of dogs and humans naturally, it is typically seen on puppies with immature immune systems but adult dogs that may have compromised immune systems could also have an overabundance of the mites, causing itching and hair loss, many flea and tick preventatives can also help with keeping the number of mites at a `normal` level and prevent the itching and hair loss. Maverick has been doing well since he has been kept on a once monthly flea and tick preventative and his hair has even started to grow back! He may always have some spots that may have thicker skin due to not having treatment consistently. Maverick is a sweet boy that has lived with other dogs and has done well, he has also lived with children and cats and did not seem to mind sharing his space with them. Maverick is on a joint supplement as he does have some stiffness in his knees (but that certainly does not slow him down!) Maverick will need someone that understands that he will most likely need to stay on a flea and tick preventative and on his joint supplement for the rest of his life to keep him comfortable. Maverick is a sweet guy that would love to find his second chance at a loving forever home soon! He is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped.
