She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. Because her previous owner reports she is friendly in a home environment, we believe the behavior seen in the care center is shelter-specific and this cat would make a great pet but is really struggling in the shelter environment. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangersA volunteer writes: It's never my intention to impose and thankfully Bubbles is quick to remind me whenever I get a little too close to that line. According to Bubbles, I need regular reminders but that's because I've been trying to make friends with Bubbles for over a month. Each time I open her condo door, I'm greeted with a hiss and whatever the cat equivalent of rolling their eyes is. Yes, I keep trying because I've heard that Bubbles is a friendly and gentle cat who enjoys playing with people, but this isn't the side of her personality she feels ready to show us at the shelter. We've also heard that Bubbles is a particularly smart and observant little cat, which is wonderful but adds a challenge to shelter life when she hasn't been the most open to our attempts at playtime or friendship.
