My story

Meet your new favorite tripod! Leah Ann came to the shelter with a broken leg, likely from being hit by a car. Sadly, her leg could not be saved, but she is a happy, resilient young pup who is on her way to a full recovery. First, she learned to walk, and now, with the help of the dog friends at her foster home (who LOVE her), she is learning to run and play and can even climb a few steps on three legs! Leah Ann gets along great with other dogs of all sizes. She has an energetic play style (she`s still got her puppy personality) but she also gets tired and is very content to lay on her bed and snore the afternoon away. She likes her crate and goes in willingly; she is happy in her crate all night with no barking or destructive behaviors. She`s also done very well with learning to potty outside and is down to almost zero accidents in the house as long as someone notices when she alerts at the door. She`d probably do best in a home with a fence and a yard as she loves being in the outdoors and likes to run, but it`s not a necessity as long as she gets good exercise. She`s not trustworthy alone in the house without her crate as she likes to chew if her humans aren`t around. Luckily, if humans have to leave, she`s fine with her crate during the day, too! As far as walks go, Leah Ann can`t get enough! We are walking every day to build up strength. Harnesses rub a little on her surgery site, so we are training her with a Halti (goes on her snout instead of around her chest), and she`s doing well. She still pulls if she sees a squirrel but is otherwise a very nice walking companion. Speaking of companionship, this is a dog who really wants to be loved. She`s smart, pays attention to her humans, and hops along behind you wherever you go. We suspect she will be a soul companion for someone because she bonds so hard and is eager to please. She mostly just seems so grateful to be out of pain and somewhere with love and enough to eat. LA still needs work on learning good manners (not jumping up) but she`s a super trainable dog and is learning so much every day. She currently lives very successfully in a home with two cats and two kids (ages 8 and 12). She`s wonderful with children and is super drawn to them but probably shouldn`t be in a home with very young ones as she still jumps and falls over and could accidentally knock one over. In terms of the cats, she ignores them unless there is food. We are working on her resource guarding. At first

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Leah Ann, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
