My story

Goldie is a sweet, happy, 2-year-old terrier mix who weighs 43 pounds. She’s up to date on shots and spayed. She's adorably cross-eyed and wants to love on everyone she meets.  She loves to eat snacks, learn new skills, snuggle with people (she'll try to fuse herself to you), chew bones, and bound across the yard to fetch a ball. It doesn't seem like she's lived inside a home before so she will need attentive supervision and training from the start (inside and outside). If left alone, she will chew on furniture, blankets, shoes, hoses (basically anything she finds interesting), but can always be redirected to an appropriate toy.  Goldie is currently living harmoniously in a foster home with a dog (the same size as Goldie), a cat, and a 6 year old kid. She plays really well with the dog (which helps manage her energy needs too!), is curious about the cat but respects the cat's boundaries, and treats the kid like another puppy in the pack (jumping up, licking, occasionally play-nipping).  She hasn't shown any aggression around food, toys, or attention, but slow intros to new people and pets are always best.  She's still learning not to put her front paws up on people, tables, chairs, etc. Given this, she'd do best in a home with older children or no children. However, she's already made BIG improvements with learning to sit and keep four paws on the ground in a short time with her foster family.  She's proven to be highly trainable, motivated by both praise/human attention and food/treats. She's new to leash walking and will need some training not to pull, but she loves to be outside and to be close to her people.  She sleeps in the crate through the night (12 hours) and will start to whine in the morning once she hears that other people are up because she just hates to miss out on any fun!  She does fine in the crate during the day also and will happily chew a bone or just snooze in there.  She's still learning how to navigate living indoors, She doesn't have accidents in her crate or chew up blankets in her crate. She will need some training and reinforcement on how to let her family know when she needs to go potty outside, but is very responsive to training.  Goldie is sweet, social, playful, and affectionate.  She will be a great goofy companion! If you are interested in adopting Goldie, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet's age. **Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. **May 26, 2025, 3:28 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Goldie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
